What is persuasive text?
Persuasive text is a form of writing that
aims to influence and convince readers to
agree with what the author believes in by
presenting opinions and ideas that primarily
appeal to the emotions rather than to the
intellect. These personal views must be
backed up by factual information obtained
through research.
Basic Parts of Persuasive Text
1. Introduction - Start your introduction with
the “hook” which can be in the form of an
interesting question, or an intriguing quote or
a striking statement about the topic. Then
shed some background information about it
before writing your thesis statement or the
sentence that clearly states your stand or
opinion.
Example of introduction:
Can we really defeat COVID-19?Or are we just
trying to convince ourselves with this hollow
promise? With nearly 370,000 COVID-19 cases
in the Philippines, 293,000 recoveries and
more than 6,400 deaths, we are still far from
ending this war against this unseen enemy.
However, we are not powerless for we can still
do something to halt the spread of the virus.
Basic Parts of Persuasive Text
2. Body- the part that supports your stand
or opinion as it contains reasons and
evidences backed up by factual
information acquired from reliable
sources.
Example of body:
Collective efforts and cooperation of all the
people within the community may make
COVID-19 stand off to a safe distance until it’s
gone for good. All we need is everybody
faithfully doing his or her part in observing
social distancing, wearing of face mask and
face shield, avoiding gatherings like parties or
drinking sessions with friends, and regular
washing of hands.
Basic Parts of Persuasive Text
3. Conclusion – is the part which
summarizes the main points of
your argument. More often, it
also urges readers to do
something. This is the call for
action.
Example of conclusion:
This virus is invisible, yet it is not invincible.
We can find ways to finally end its reign if we
change our mindset from “I’ to “we” and begin
to think of other people’s welfare and act for
other people’s benefit. The process of
eradicating it may be slow, but it’s not
impossible. We’re stronger than this virus if
we fight it together!
Persuasive Text: Home for the Strays
Are you an animal lover? One who
considers these creatures as god’s children
too? Roam around your community and you
will find in the streets innumerable hungry, sick
stray dogs and cats waiting to be saved.
Adopting these strays is the best solution there
is.
Opening your home to neglected
animals gives more benefits than
detriments. Aside from having a loyal
house-guard, a dog or a cat can be your
lifetime friend who will love you
unconditionally. The joy these animals
bring wards off depression and the
feeling of loneliness.
Believe me, your life will be more
meaningful if you open your heart to take
in the homeless dogs or cats. I know
because I’ve done it too, and it’s a very
rewarding experience!
Answer these questions based on the text:

5-7. Enumerate the reasons or evidences of the writer.
8.What is the text convincing the readers to do?
