ST. ALEXIUS PRAYER
Precious Lord, St. Alexius ran away

from home disguised as a beggar in
order to pursue his vocation. Later, he
returned as a beggar keeping his true
identity hidden.
ST. ALEXIUS PRAYER
But his parents who were kind to the

needy, invited him in.
For seventeen years, they let him live in a

corner under their stairs, seeing him only
as a homeless man. There, he prayed and
taught the faith to children.
ST. ALEXIUS PRAYER
I ask him to intercede for the homeless.

Lead them to the ministries and
organizations that will supply their needs
and draw out the gifts that they can offer.
ST. ALEXIUS PRAYER
O Jesus, fill my heart with Your kindness

toward them. Saint Alexius, pray for us.

Identity and Core Purpose
St. Alexius College is a duly recognized and accredited

institution founded by Dr. Arturo P. Pingoy and Dr. Amparo
Y. Pingoy in 1971, to provide education and training for
regional and socio-economic development.

Sculpture
• Originates from the Latin word “sculpere”, which
means “to carve.”
• The process or art of carving or engraving a hard
material so as to produce designs, or figures in relief, or
in the round.

3. Kinetic Sculpture
4. Assemblage Sculpture
1. Relief
• relief sculpture is among the oldest forms of sculptured
art.
– Bas relief
– Alto-relief
– Sunken-relief
2. Free-standing Sculpture
• Also known as sculpture-in-the-round, likely represents the
form of sculpture most recognizable to modern people.
• This kind of sculpture includes some of the Greek, Roman,
Medieval, and Classical eras, including Michaelangelo’s
David.
3. Kinetic sculpture
• Is a free-standing sculpture that moves, either by mechanical
power or under the power of wind or water.
• Fountains are form of kinetic sculpture.
4. Assemblage Sculpture
• Is sculpture pieced together from found or scavenged items
that have little or no relationship to one another.
• Some of these objects are junk from the streets.
• Collages are a sort of two-dimensional representation of
assemblage sculpture.

1. Carving
• A process in which the artist subtracts or cuts away from a
solid material to reach the desired form.
2. Modeling
• A process of manipulating soft materials to create a three-
dimensional form. Unlike carving, modeling requires soft
substances that can be easily and rapidly shaped by the
sculptor's hand’s.
3. Casting
• A method of obtaining the permanence of a modeled work by
making a mold and casting it in a durable material such as
bronze.
4. Construction and Assemblage
• These methods was originated from the technique collage,
which was popularized by the Cubists during the early part of
the 20th Century.
Functions of Sculpture
• Is produced for numerous reasons and functions in a range of
different ways.
• Many people produce sculptures that depicts divinities or
cultural heroes in human or animal forms which would have
been used in a religious or ritual context.

1. Hard Materials
• The most recognizable and most popular form of sculpture has
been created with hard materials.
• This is the oldest form of sculpture.
• These sculptures may often be representational.

2. Sound
• Some experimental artists create sound sculptures, meaning
the three-dimensional structures also produce sounds.

3. Light
• A unique type of medium because they use a various form of
light or lighting to create an aesthetic effect.

Elements of Design in Sculpture
• Many design elements combine to create a work of art.
• Design elements are the things that make it possible to create
art. Without them, things would have no color, shape, outline,
or space.
1. Scale
• refers to its size or relative to the size of its surrounding
environment.
2. Color
• the way light waves are absorbed or reflected by everything
around us.
3. Line
• The outline that forms the edges of the sculpture to create its
silhouette.
4. Shape
• Interest creating a shape which has a certain width and height.
5. Space
• refers to the area between, around, above, below, or within
elements in a work of art.
6. Texture
• Real and implied texture. Real texture refers to the actual
surface; Implied texture is the illusion of texture.
7. Value
• Is the lightness or darkness of a color. Shades and tints.
8. Form
• Is the three-dimensional; it has height, width, and thickness.
