Definition
> Fungi are eukaryotic organisms
belonging to the kingdom Fungi. Is
a group of organisms perfecting the
fungus-like protists.

> Known as yeast (unicellular

fungi) and fungi (multicellular
fungi)
- Eukaryotic organisms
- Has a cell wall composed of chitin
- Are heterotrophic
- Does not have chlorophyll (green
pigment)
Characteristics - Found in a variety of colors, none
of which is green.
of fungi - Acts as a decomposer
(decomposers)
- Composed of h yphae.

Reproduction
Reproduction of fungi can be sexual (generative) and asexual
(vegetative).

- Asexually, fungi produce spore

- Sexually, fungi undergo gametangium contact and
conjugation. Gametangium contact results in syngamy, which is
the union of cells from two individuals .s.
CLASSIFICATION OF
FUNGI
Characteristics :
- Produce zygospores.
- Multicellular body
- Lives on land, and is a
saprophyte
Zygomicotina -Has uninsulated hyphae
- Vegetatives; with spores
- Example; Mucor mucedo
Ascomycotina

Characteristics:
- Produces ascospores (Generative)
Vegetative, forming shoots / spores from
conidia
- Unicellular or multicellular
- Has insulated hyphae
- Live in a way; some are parasitic, some
are saprophytic, some are symbiotic,
- Example; Sacharomyces cerevisae,
everyday known as y east.
Reproduction
Asexual reproduction
- In unicellular Ascomycota, this is done by
forming buds or shoots.

- Multicellular asexual reproduction is

carried out by mycelium fragmentation and
conidia formation
Ascomycotina

Example species: Saccharomyces

cereviseae
Example species: Penicellium
camemberti
Basidiomycotina
CHARACTERISTICS :
• Produces basidiospores (generative)
• Generally in the form of macroscopic
fungi
• In the form of multicellular fungi

occurs through mating between
hyphae of different types to produce
sexual spores (generative spores),
namely basidium spores
(basidiospores).
Basidiomycotina

Example species: Exobasdium vexans

Example species: Volvariella volvacea
Deuteromycotina
Another name for Fungi Imperfecti (imperfect fungi) is so named
because this fungus is not known for certain how to reproduce
generatively.

The Oncom mushroom before it was known for its generative

reproduction was called Monilia sitophila, but after it was known
that its generative reproduction in the form of ascus was changed to
Neurospora sitophila, it was included in Ascomycota. Many skin
diseases due to fungi (dermatomycosis) are caused by fungi of this
group, for example Edermophyton fluocosum (causes athlete's chef's
disease), Microsporum sp., Trichophyton sp. (cause of ringworm).
