Newscasting or Reading Radio Scripts

Don’t rush your words and sentences until you are out of
breath.
However, don’t allow your talk to drag resulting in long
pauses. In radio, listeners take long pauses as silence, a
questionable gap that is not very helpful in understanding
a meaning.
Things to Remember in Newscasting
 Pauses must be used sparingly and in shorter duration so
as not to distort a message.
 If you are a beginning broadcaster, make proper
preparation before going in the air.
Make your reading sound like a talk.
 In developing your own speaking style, avoid a
monotonous recital, an artificial over-emphasize of a
“stage” inflection.
Be original.
At the Radio Station
 Do not fix your eyes on the teleprompter or telecuer if
you are using one.
Converse with your audience.
Observe correct pausing.
Avoid regionalist pronunciation.
Talk to express, not to impress.
