PHILOSOPHY

• Originated in Greece as the “mother of all disciplines” covering the entire scope of
inquiry about humans and the environment they are living in.
• From the Greek word “Philos” means loving and “Sophia” means knowledge or wisdom
The word philosophy means the “love of wisdom”.
• Philosophy emphasizes our living desire to understand the world that surrounds us and
the world within us
• Phythagoras is the very first philosopher to have coined Philosophy

METAPHYSICS

• The study of every reality, seeking its ultimate cause in absolute sense and the diverse
manner of “being” of things.
• It examines whether what people perceive as reality is truly real or just an illusion
• Study of existence
• It answers the query “What is?”
EPISTEMOLOGY

• the study of the process of attaining knowledge


• It answers the question “How do we know”
• It is concerned with how the human person’s mind is associated with reality and whether
these relationships are valid or invalid.
ETHICS

• It deals with correct judgement


• It answers the question “what should I do?”
• A study of right and wrong in human actions
• Determine moral standards and applying these standards in their daily activities
AESTHETICS

• The study includes what art is and purpose behind it.


• It aims to determine what is beautiful and what makes it a thing of beauty
• It answers the question “What can life be like?”
