FABRICATION OF MULTI-AXIS WELDING
ROBOT WITH GRINDING MACHINE
WHAT IS WELDING
 Welding is a fabrication process whereby two or more parts are fused together by
means of heat, pressure or both forming a join as the parts cool.

 Welding is usually used on metals and thermoplastics but can also be used on wood.

 The completed welded joint may be referred to as a weldment.

 The parts that are joined are known as a parent material.

 The material added to help form the join is called filler or consumable.

 The form of these materials may see them referred to as parent plate or pipe, filler
wire, consumable electrode (for arc welding), etc.
COMPONENTS OF WELDING
MACHINE
 Pneumatic cylinder

 Pneumatic valves

 Pneumatic fittings

 24 volt DC motors

 12mm shaft

 20mm shaft and Wheels

Problem Identification
 Even in the modern world ,many industries uses
manual welding due to lack of economic resource
and lack of infrastructure. This creates the problem
in uniformity and also in quality.
 Manual welding also adds the expenditure of labour
cost.
 There is a difficulty to weld at narrow pipelines.
 Manual welding also has a persistent risk of causing
hazards to the labour through fumes, spark etc.
Objective
 To reduce human error and human involvement in
welding operation.

 To achieve more safety operation.

 To increacse the production rate.

 To maintain the quality of welding.

What is welding machine

 A heated tool welding machine consists of the heated tool assembly with two
exposed surfaces, two fixtures for holding parts to be welded, tooling for
bringing parts in contact with the heated tool and bringing molten joint surfaces
together to form the weld, and displacement stops on the platen and holding
fixtures.

 Welding machine refers to an electrical appliance that provides power with

certain characteristics for welding.

 Weldingis widely used in various industrial fields such as aerospace, ships,

automobiles, containers, etc.
Types of Electric Arc Welding
 The electric arc welding is mainly classified into following
types −

 DC Metallic Arc Welding

 AC Metallic Arc Welding

 Carbon Arc Welding

 Atomic Hydrogen Arc Welding

 Shielded Arc Welding

What is Grinding Operation and Why ?
 Grinding is the process of breaking up particles.

 Grinding is an abrasive machining process that uses a

grinding wheel or grinder as the cutting tool.
 The weld laid on or between materials is of convex
shape with a slight bulge outwards.

 The part which should be welded should have a

smooth surface.
Principle of Multi-axis Welding Robot

 The Movement of the welding robot is controlled

through remote controller via bluetooth .A 24 Volt Dc
motor is used for the movement of the robot.
 The Welding Probe is connected to the Pneumatic
cylinder which is controlled by a switch case.

Advantages of Arc Welding
 The electric arc welding is the suitable welding process
for high speed welds.

 Apparatus required for arc welding is very simple and

portable.

 The electric arc welding gives superior temperature at

the point of welding.

 Electric arc welding can work on both AC and DC

supply.
 It is inexpensive to install.
Applications of Electric Arc Welding
 Electric arc welding is used in repairing of broken parts of machines.

 It is used for welding of cast iron or steel housings and frames.

 Electric arc welding is used in various industries such as automotive

industries, construction industries, mechanical industries, etc.

 Electric welding is also used for welding process in shipbuilding.

 It is used in narrow space also.
