Review of related literature
 Teenage pregnancy is widespread in Philippines especially among the poor. It is the story that may
not be too pleasant but one that is repeated at all too often is teenage pregnancy. Teenage
pregnancy is an obvious rising issue continuous to rise even though there are a lot of disadvantages
that young mothers and fathers can obviously get in the said issue. Fox 2008 defined that teenage
pregnancy is one of the most important and very alarming issues in today’s world.
 From 2000 to 2010 the number of live births by teenage mothers in the Philippines rose by more
than sixty percent. It is the latest data from the national statistics office showed. Another
alarming fact is that the of the teenage mothers who give birth to their second or third child
during their teenage year is increased in the last ten years. This is based on the data shown in the
press conference in Quezon city by Carmelita Ericta the administrator and civil general of the
National Statistics Office. ( NSO 2010 )
 Brown and Amankwaa (2007) stated that as more female college students are involved in sexual
relationship their risk of conception increase. However, when pregnancy occur it is only the
women who bears the burden and risk of the pregnancy and in most cases child care often this
type of pregnancy is unplanned. Caring for a student’s become stressful because child bearing
consumes time and energy with few exceptions the women are the primary care giver.
 With the increase of higher education students. Ten percent of this population are parents are
parents or mothers who are hoping to give their children a better future and attending to their
needs through receiving degree. These non-traditional students are often student’s mother and
should be given special and care givers at home. Most of them considered their families as a
hindrance of their education which is wrong. They should see it as a motivator because primarily
student mothers go back to studying because they want to provide the needs of their child.
