Deiner and Adán discuss Adán's dying corn plants. Adán noticed the tops browning three weeks ago, then wilting despite extra water. The plants started dying, and dead plants looked black near their roots. Some living plants are also turning black at the roots. Deiner will take samples to the lab to diagnose the problem.

Adán: Well, my plants are dying, even though I gave them plenty of water and fertilizer Deiner: When did you notice the problem? Adán: Three weeks ago. First, I noticed the tops of some of the plants were browning. Deiner: What happened next? Any stunted growth? Adán: Not that. Next, they just started to wilt slightly. Thats when I gave them extra water. Deiner: After that did you notice any changes? Adán: Yes, the next thing I know is that they were dying. Deiner: Did you any changes in the color of the plants? Adán: Yes. The dead plants looked black near their roots. Deiner: And the plants that are still alive? Adán: Some of them are turning black near the roots. Deiner: I'm going to take samples to the lab.
