INTRODUCTION

Most people associate GREEN concrete with concrete that is

colored with pigment. However, it is also referred which has not yet
hardened. But in the context of this topic, green concrete is taken to
mean environmentally friendly concrete. This means concrete that
uses less energy in its production & produces less carbon dioxide
than normal concrete is green concrete. Engineers and architects
have choices of the material and products they use to design projects
- when it comes to a building frame the choice is typically between
concrete, steel and wood. Material choice depends on several factors
including first cost, life cycle cost and performance for a specific
application. Due to growing interest in sustainable development,
engineers and architects are motivated more than ever before to
choose materials that are more sustainable. However, such choice is
not as straight forward as selecting an energy star rated appliance or
a vehicle providing high fuel mileage

4
 Concrete which is made from concrete wastes that are eco-
friendly are called as “Green concrete”. Green concrete is
the production of concrete using as many as recycled
materials as possible and leaving the smallest carbon footprint
as possible. The other name for green concrete is resource
saving structures with reduced enviro- mental impact for e.g.
Energy saving, co2 emissions, waste water.Green concrete” is
a revolutionary topic in the history of concrete industry. This
was first invented in Denmark in the year 1998 by Dr. WG.
Concrete wastes like slag, power plant wastes, recycled
concrete, mining and quarrying wastes, waste glass,
incinerator residue, red mud, burnt clay, sawdust, combustor
ash and foundry sand. Green Concrete is a term given to a
concrete that has had extra steps taken in the mix design and
placement to
 insure a sustainable structure and a long-life cycle with a low
maintenance surface e.g. Energy saving, CO2 emissions,
waste water.
5
OBJECTIVES

1.Reduces energy consumption

2.Use industrial waste
3.Reduce CO2 emission

LITERATURE REVIEW
In
 2016, Anita Bhatia, publishes a paper on green concrete in which they concluded that
green concrete is very low energy and resource consumption, no environmental pollution and
sustainable development. One can conclude that overcoming the above demerits would help
to use the green cement concrete with a potentially new environmental friendly world. With
the waste material as an alternative we can help to reduce the environmental problems and
protect the naturally available materials for the future generation.
In 2016, Praveer Singh, studied about the silica fume and comes to the conclusion that

cement is becoming a scarce resource all over the world because of increase in demand day
by day. The use of silica fume as a pozzolana material has increased in recent years because
when mixed in certain proportions it enhances the properties of both fresh and hard concrete.
Addition of silica fume in proper proportion improves durability attack by acidic waters and
improving concrete conditions.

In 2016, Tae Hyoung Kim, study about the CO2 emission from concrete and concluded that

concrete, a common construction material, is known to emit large amount of
environmental.ly hazardous waste during the processes related to its production,
construction, maintenance, and demolition. The CO2 emitted in a concrete production affect
the acidification and global warming

7
 In 2015, Dhiraj Kumar Tiwari, studies about the green concrete and
concluded that green concrete capable for sustainable development is
characterized by application of industrial wastes to reduce
consumption of natural resources and energy and pollution of
environment. Application of green concrete is an effective way to
reduce environment pollution and improve durability of a concrete
under severe conditions. Green concrete has the good thermal & fire
resistance.

 In 2015, Xian LI, conducted an experiments on concrete having fine
aggregate replacement by demolished brick waste and they comes to
the conclusion that recycled waste brick aggregate has obvious
different properties from recycled concrete aggregate and is hardly
accepted because of its lower strength the effect of recycled waste
brick fine aggregate on compressive strength and flexural strength of
mortar was studied. A good bond exists between recycled brick
aggregate & the cement paste. The fire resistance of recycled brick
aggregate concrete is better.

CASE STUDY
Singapore -- Amerald Land has unveiled its eco-friendly condominium
project called
Gaia which is constructed entirely from green concrete and complies
with the Building
and Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Platinum standards.
Launched on May 2012, Amerald Land said it consulted extensively
with the BCA
on the various aspects of the project, from Green Mark assessment to
methods of
enhancing construction productivity and sustainable construction
methods or materials
Green concrete is increasingly recognised for its strong environmental
benefits of
reducing wastage and over-reliance on raw materials

.
ADVANTAGE
Advantage Of Green Concrete:
• It will give enhanced cohesion so user friendly - easier to place,
compact & finish concrete. It can be seen in concrete slump given
in figure 13. Some other advantages of such mix are:
• Optimized mix designs mean easier handling, better consistency
and easier finishing
• Reduction in shrinkage & creep
• Green Concrete uses local and recycled materials in concrete.
• The heat of hydration of green concrete is significantly lower than
traditional concrete
• This result in a lower temperature rise in large concrete pours
which is a distinct advantage for green concrete.

11
SCOPE

 1. Green concrete is a revolutionary topic in the history of concrete

 industry.
 2. As Green Concrete is made with concrete waste it does take more
 time to come in India because of Industries having problem to
 dispose wastes and It also reduces environmental impact with
 reduction in co2 emission .
 3. Indian CO₂ emissions in 2000 were 956 Mt (=million tonnes)
CO.
 4. The major contributors were power plants (44.9%), steel plants
 (9.2%) and cement plants NDIA is in emergency to reduce the
amount of Co, emissions in the country.
 5. 10% of CO₂ emissions can reduced by using green concrete
 So INDIA has the scope of GREEN CONCRETE
