THE DIGNITY OF WORK
1. Have you observed your parents/guardians while at
work?
2. Do you think they find joy or fulfilment in their
work?

B. Value Ranking:

* What household chores do you perform at home?
PRESENTATION:
Work has value because of two
basic reasons:
A. The person
B. The fruit of his/her labor
1. Subjective Dimension: This refers to
the human person as the primary basis
of the value of work (PCP II,316). Work
is “for humans” and not humans “for
work”.
2. Productive Dimension –This refer
to the product of our work. Humans
work in order to renew the face of the
earth. This means that one’s work is
his/her contribution to social
transformation.
Mother Ignacia knows this ethical value
of work; that;s why in their 1726 Rules
and Constitutions, she instructed that: “
The Rectora shall see to it that the work
assigned to the sisters shall not be
excessive and beyond their capacity.”
(III.#15)Furthermore in #46, she tells the
beatas that “ all should endeavor to find
means to keep themselves busy. Because
idleness and laziness is the root of evil
thoughts which open the door to the devil
so that he could corrupt souls.”
Every work is significant, no matter
how little or great, how hard or easy be
it blue or white collar job. Every work
contributes to the common good. Every
work done in LOVE is SERVICE. One’s
Work is a contribution to the social
transformation.

Prayer of Gratitude for the Gift of Work
God of love and life, let us take time to look
deep within ourselves and discover the gifts
you have blessed us with. May we take time to
direct our lives in a way that best uses our own
unique combination of gifts. May our
education help us discover where our strengths
and interests lie. May our faith guide us in
realizing our gifts. May we always be open to
the direction of the Spirit and never forget the
love you have for each of us.
Give us, O Lord, the perception we
need to look within ourselves and the
beauty and gifts we possess. Give us
the courage to show others the talents
they have. Help u serve others in the
community and in doing build up your
kingdom. We ask this through Jesus,
our Lord. Amen.
