ABSTRACT
1. It is a computer system for gathering and analyzing real time data.
2. SCADA systems are used to monitor and control a plant or equipment in industries such as
telecommunications, water and waste control, energy, oil and gas refining and transportation
3. A SCADA system gathers information, transfers the information back to a central site and carries out
necessary analysis and control

WHAT IS SCADA
1. SCADA stands for Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition
2. It is not a full control system, but rather focuses on the supervisory level.
3. It is a software package that is positioned on top of hardware to which it is interfaced
4. Systems similar to SCADA systems are routinely seen in factories, treatment plants etc.
5. It Directly interact with devices such as sensors, valves, pumps, motors, and more through human-
machine interface (HMI) software
6. The operator interfaces which enable monitoring and the issuing of process commands,
like controller set point changes, are handled through the SCADA computer system.

DESIGN OF A SCADA-BASED WATER FLOW AND DISTRIBUTION MONITORING SYSTEM

 This particular SCADA system consists of a primary control center and three monitoring points.
 A second backup control center provides redundancy in the event of a primary control center malfunction.
 The third field site is local to the control center and uses the wide area network (WAN) for communications.
 A regional control center sits above the primary control center for a higher level of supervisory control
 A regional control center sits above the primary control center for a higher level of supervisory control
 The primary control center can send new set points to a field device as required.
 SCADA server also watches for priority interrupts coming from field site alarm systems.
FEATURES OF SCADA

•It possesses a feature of recipe management

•It contains scripts
•It has the feature of device connectivity
•It possesses data base connectivity
•It has application security
•It has a feature of historical time trend
•It also possesses a feature of real time trend
•It also possess features like alarm history and alarm summary
•It has the feature of dynamic process graphic
ADVANTAGES OF SCADA

The system provide facility to store large amount of data.

The data can be displayed in various formats as per user requirements.
It provides interface to connect thousands of sensors across wide region for various monitoring and
controlling operations.
It is possible to obtain real data simulations with the help of operators.
Many types of data can be gathered from RTUs (Remote Terminal Units) connected with the master unit.
It is fast in obtaining response.
CONCLUSION

SCADA is a control system with

• More front end functionality

• More interfaces and efficient storage
• More record or device oriented configuration
• but System wide configuration tools are needed
• are less expensive than DCS, but offer different functionality than DCS
• And finally various applications
