Reduction in Transshipment discrepancy for

DEL to BOM

Project Guide: Mr. Agaz Khan

Presented by: Pratik Bhamre

INTRODUCTION

• Aim: To understand discrepancies in transshipments cases from DEL to BOM and provide
workable solutions in reducing the short land, excess land and weight amendment cases.

• Method used to find causes of the problem: Cause & Effect Diagram

• Problem Solving approach used: Yokoten (Horizontal Deployment) method. Here, it was
observed that these amendments occurred at a minimal level at BLR GTW as compared to
DEL to BOM TP. Hence, BLR process was studied with its advantages and disadvantages.
On the basis of Cargo Amendment data at BOM GTW (Cargo Terminal) and BLR GTW
process, both, long term and short term suggestions have been provided.

PROBLEM AREAS IDENTIFIED

• Discrepancies in final manifests and actual arrival at BOM resulting in multiple amendment
cases (short/excess/weight)

• Manual errors at the time of physical segregation of courier/cargo shipments at DEL GTW
due to manual tally process and current infrastructural challenges etc.

• Often, there is more than required movement of data among teams, back and forth, resulting
in Non Value Added activities

PROCESSES FOLLOWED
AS IS Process Overview:

Capture
Receive Courier-Cargo
Breakbulk Manual Tally Checkpoint & Final Alert
Inbound Load bifurcation
Bagging

Possibility of maximum errors

Proposed Process:

Live Tally process

Receive Inbound Courier-Cargo
Breakbulk managing PCID Final Alert
Load bifurcation
wise data in Excel

The proposed process is similar to what is being followed at BLR GTW which is simpler, more reliable and accurate.

PROPOSED SOLUTIONS 1- KANBAN COLOR CODING

• Color Cards/Tapes can be used to mark

shipments whether courier or cargo in order to
reduce human errors at the time of handling
shipments
• This can be done live at the time of breakbulk
• For e.g. In BOM GTW, all the shipments which
are supposed to be transferred to cargo are
marked with a CTM sticker shown in the picture.
This helps the team at BOM GTW to easily
identify CTM shipments and nullifies the
possibility of shipment going unmanifested at
cargo

PROPOSED SOLUTIONS 2- TWO EYE PRINCIPLE

1st Eye: Tally based Excel Macros (no manual tally sheet)
• PCID wise data stored in excel as shown below, which is more accurate as compared to
manual tally sheet

2nd Eye: At the time of final handover to Airline, agent to do PL for all the cargo and courier shipments
separately. HU details then to be cross tallied with the Macro to ensure no discrepancy in CTM

In case of any discrepancy, same can be resolved before the load departs from the GTW

PROPOSED SOLUTIONS 3- STANDARDIZED WEB APPLICATION (LONG TERM)

• As a long term solution, a standard web application can be developed to address discrepancy in
transshipment.

• This will provide information security, easy maintenance of records, better visibility across all
gateways in order to curb the amendments in future.

• Using the standard web application, we can also minimize the data flow between gateways/stations
by having an inbuilt access to SCM and ACA
