Introduction International crimes affect the peace or safety of countries as to justify the intervention of international agencies in the investigation and prosecution thereof. International Criminal Court (ICC) The ICC is a judicial intergovernmental organization. With four principal organs:
● The Presidency ● The Judicial Divisions ● The Office of the Prosecutor ● The Registry
It is an autonomous court, whereas other
tribunals and courts, deal with specific situations with limited jurisdiction which is to prosecute individuals nor States. The Most Insidious Crimes
Subject Matter of ICC Jurisdiction
Genocide to destroy whole or part of a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, killing them, or causing serious body or mental harm. Crimes Against Humanity an organized attack to any civilian such as enslavement, torture, rape, sexual slavery and violence, and other inhumane acts War Crimes a plan or a part of a large- commission of crimes such as willful killing, extensive destruction of property, taking hostages, and other similar acts. Terrorism involves the use or threat of violence and seeks to create fear, not just within the direct victims but among a wide audience. Human Trafficking a modern-day slavery and involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. Conclusion Crimes around the world are either rising or falling. The truth is, we cannot eliminate crimes, but it can controlled and reduced. “Peace cannot be kept by force.
