WHAT IS A SENSOR….?•

• A sensor is a device that measures a physical

quantity and converts it into a signal which can
be read by an observer or an instrument. •
sensors are used in everyday life like the touch
sensitive elevator buttons which are a type of
tactile sensor and lamps which dim or brighten
by touching the base.
TYPES OF SENSORS

• • IR SENSOR
• • SOUND SENSOR
• • TEMPERATURE SENSOR
• • fibre optical sensor
• IR SENSOR• IR sensor works on the principle of
emitting IR rays and receiving the reflected ray by
a receiver (Photo Diode).
• IR source = forward biased (led)
• IR reciever = reverse biased (photodiode)
• IR sensors are now widely used in motion
detectors, which are used in building services to
switch on lamps or in alarm systems to detect
unwelcome guests
• What are sound sensors?
• sound sensor is defined as a module that detects
sound waves through its intensity and converting it
to electrical signals. Sound detection sensor works
similarly to our Ears, having diaphragm which
converts vibration into signals.Sound waves
propagate through air molecules which cause the
diaphragm in the microphone to vibrate, resulting
in capacitance change.
• Consumer electronics such as phones,
computers, music systemsSecurity and
Monitoring systems such as burglar alarms,
door alarm, etc.- Home automation such as
lighting your house by detecting
whistle/clap instead of physically turning
the light switch- sound recognition/sound
level recognition of environment
• A temperature sensor is a device used to
measure temperature. This can be air
temperature, liquid temperature or the
temperature of solid matter. Types of
temperature sensors includes thermistors,
thermocouples or resistance temperature
detectors (rtds)
• Fibre optic sensor uses optical fibre aa sensing
element.Fiber optic sensors are used in multiple
applications like testing mechanical properties or
analyzing cracks, monitor restoration and monitor
displacement. Similarly in dams they can detect and
monitor leakages and check for any foundation
defects.
