What are input devices ?
An input device is a piece of equipment used to provide
data and control signals to an information processing
system such as a computer or information appliances .

 it has the capability of converting the raw data into the


format or language which is computer –readable and
finally delivers the translated data to the central
processing unit (CPU)
Examples of input devices.
Keyboard
Mouse
Scanners
Web camera
Joysticks
Microphones

The keyboard is a basic input devices that is used to
enter data into a computer or any other electronic
device by pressing keys .
It has different set of keys for letters , numbers,
characters and functions .
Keyboards are connected to a computer through USB
or a bluetooth device for wireless communication.
Mouse
The mouse is a hand –held input device which is used
to move cursor or pointer across the screen
It is designed to be used on a flat surface and generally
has left and right button and a scroll wheel between
them .
Laptop computers come with a touchpad that works as
a mouse .
It some mouse comes with integrated features such as
buttons to perform different buttons.
Scanners
The scanner uses the pictures and pages of text as
input . it scans a picture or a document .
The scanned picture or document then converted into
a digital format or file and is displayed on the screen as
an output .
It uses optical character recognition techniques to
convert images into digital ones.
Web Camera
Any camera which is connected to a computer is called
a webcam. The in built camera provided on a
computer can also be considered a webcam.
it works almost the same as the digital camera , it is
different from a digital camera , as it is designed to
take compact digital photos that can be uploaded
easily on the webpages and shared with others throgh
the internet
Joysticks
It is a device which comprises a stick which is attached
at an angle to the base so that it can moved and
controlled.
It is mostly used to control the movement in vedio
games .
Apart from a computer system, a joystick is also used
in the cockpit of an aeroplane, wheelchairs, cranes,
trucks etc to operate them well.
Microphones
Using a microphone , sound can be stored in a device
in its digital form.
It converts sound into an electrical signal.
To record or reproduce a sound created using a
microphone, it needs to be connected with an
amplifier.
What are output devices?
An output device is a piece of computer hardware that
receives data from a computer and then translates that
data into another form .That form may be audio,
visuals, textual, or hard copy such as a printed
document .
 The key distinction between an input device and an
output device is that an input device sends data to the
computer , whereas an output device receives data
from the computer .

Monitor
Printer
Speakers
Projector
Headphones
Monitor
The device which displays all the icons , text , images,
etc over a screen is called the monitor.
When we ask the computer to perform an action , the
result of that action is displayed on the monitor .
Various types of monitors have also been developed
over the years .
Printer
A device which a makes a copy of the pictorial or
textual content, usually over a paper is called a printer.
For example, an author types the entire book on
his/her computer and later gets a prit out of it which is
in the form of paper and is later published.
Multiple types of printers are also available in the
market, which can serve different purposes.
Speakers
A device through which we can listen to a sound as an
outcome of what we command a computer to do is
called a speaker .
Speakers are attached with a computer system and
also are a hardware device which can be attached
seperately
With the advancement in technology, speakers are
now available which are wireless and can be connected
using bluetooth or other applications
Projector
An optical device which presents an image or moving
images onto a projection screen is called a projector.
Most commonly these projectors are used in
auditoriums and movie theatres for the display of the
videos or lightening.
If a projector is connected to a computer , then the
image /video displayed on the computer screen .
Headphones
They perform the same function as a speaker , the only
difference is the frequency of sound .
Using speakers, the sound can be heard over a larger
area and using headphones , the sound is only audible
to the person using them .
It is also known as earphones or headset.
