SEC. 2. Acts of Bullying. – For purposes of
this Act, “bullying” shall refer to any severe or
repeated use by one or more students of a written,
verbal or electronic expression, or a physical act or
gesture, or any combination thereof, directed at
another student that has the effect of actually
causing or placing the latter in reasonable fear of
physical or emotional harm or damage to his
property.
Cyber-safety is a pervasive and global
problem (Li, 2006, 2008, Ang & Goh,2010, Kraft,
2009, Shariff, 2008). 

The cyber-danger issues range from cyber


bullying to sexting and, most recently,
sextbullying (Eraker, 2010).
Cyber violence
affects almost half of
children aged 13-17.
The prevalence of
cyber violence for

WHAT IS CYBER BULLYING

Cyber bullying is defined as a


form of bullying that uses
electronic means such as the
Internet and mobile phones to
repeatedly, aggressively, and
intentionally harm someone
(Price & Dalgleish, 2010; Ang & Goh, 2010;
Willard, 2007).

Imprisonment for a maximum of six
years and a penalty ranging from
P50,000.00 to P100,000.00
EFFECTS AND CONSEQUENCES OF CYBER BULLYING

 Destroys trust
 Intense feelings of stress and
anxiety (such as insomnia,
gastrointestinal issues, and harmful
eating patterns)
 A drop in social behavior —
avoiding friends or social events

VARIOUS FORMS of CYBER BULLYING

 Cyberstalking
o repeated use of electronic communications to harass or frighten
someone, for example by sending threatening emails.
 Sextortion
o the practice of extorting money or sexual favors from someone
by threatening to reveal evidence of their sexual activity
 Racism
o prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual,
community, or institution against a person or people on the basis
of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group

 Misogyny
o dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against women
 Harassment
o aggressive pressure or intimidation
 Exclusion
o state of excluding or being excluded (singling out/kicking out of
group chats)
 Trolling
o make a deliberately offensive or provocative online post with the aim of
upsetting someone or eliciting an angry response from them
 Personal information or identity theft (phishing or hacking)

 Pranking someone’s cell phone
 Hacking into someone’s gaming or social networking
profile
 Being rude or mean to someone in an online game
 Spreading secrets or rumors about people online

 Pretending to be someone else to spread hurtful


messages online
 Harassing or threatening someone or sending mean
messages through instant messages (IMs), phone calls,
text messages or emails
 Posting private or embarrassing photos online or sending
them to others
WHAT CAN WE DO?
 As parents, talk to your child
 Reach out to a trustworthy adult
 Use technology to your advantage (Bar and apps like Bully
blocker)
 Screenshot the messages
 Encourage them not to respond (Disengage)
 Log Off and Block Harassers
 Use Privacy Settings
 Step In to Stop It
