 What is GATE Exam?
• It stands for “ Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering”.
• Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India entrance
Examination conducted jointly by IISc and seven IITs, every year in the
month of January last week or February first week.
• GATE score is valid for three years.
• GATE Exam Score can be used for admissions in various Post graduate
programs in various IIT’s, NIT’s and other centrally funded institutions.
Nowadays various PSU’s are also hiring with the GATE Score.
• Organising Institute for GATE 2021 is Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)
Bombay
• GATE 2021 examination will be conducted over six days and twelve
sessions on Friday 5th, Saturday 6th, Sunday 7th, Friday 12th, Saturday
13th and Sunday 14th of February 2021.
 Eligibility criteria for GATE Exam
• Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/Technology/Architecture (4
years after 10+2/ Post-B.Sc./ Post-Diploma) and those who are in the
final year of such programs.
• Master's degree holders in any branch of
Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent
and those who are in the final year of such programs.
• The applicants appearing in the final year of qualifying exam can also
apply for exam provided they have to submit the certificate from the
Principal of University or College.

 GATE Exam Pattern
•  The exam will be held in the online mode Fully Computer Based Test (CBT).
• The questions in the examination will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs),
Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT).
• The answers to the Numerical questions are to be calculated by using the
online virtual calculator.
• There is a penalty of 0.33 marks for 1 mark questions and 0.66 marks for 2
marks questions.
• There is NO negative marking for a wrong answer in Numerical AT questions
• Total duration of the examination is 180 minutes.

 Type of Questions
• Recall :
These are based on facts, principles, formulae or laws in the discipline of the paper.
The candidate is expected to be able to obtain the answer either from his/her
memory of the subject or at most from a one-line computation.
• Comprehension/Understanding:
These questions will test the candidate’s understanding of the basics of his/her field.
requiring him/her to draw simple conclusions from fundamental ideas.
• Applications:
In these questions, the candidate is expected to apply his/her knowledge either
through computation or by logical reasoning.
• Analysis and Synthesis:
the candidate is presented with data, diagrams, images, etc. that require analysis
before a question can be answered
 How to prepare for GATE exam
• Practice previous year question papers and analyze weak point of yours.
• Candidate must try to solve the paper in a given time limit.
• Give priority to group study, it will brushup your knowledge about technical
things.
• Prepare the list of important definitions, points, derivations, theorem, etc.
• More concentrate on those topic whose weightage is more.
• Beware to attempt those questions in which you are not sure about answer.
• Online mock paper is also a good option for practice.
