DESCRIPTION

• Descriptive is a type of text which gives

description about an object (living or non-living)
such as person, place or thing.

• The social function of descriptive text is to

describe a particular person, place, thing or
animal.
The generic structure
• Identification
That is the statement that
consists of one topic to be
described.
• Description
Consists of the description
details about the object
 Language features
• nouns tertentu, misalnya teacher,
house,my rabbit, dsb.
• simple present tense.
• detailed noun phrase untuk
memberikan informasi tentang subjek,
misalnya: She’s a sweet young lady.
• berbagai macam adjectives, yang
bersifat numbering or classifying, mis:
two strong legs, two white fangs, dsb.
 Language features
• relating verbs untuk memberikan
informasi tentang subjek, misalnya, My
mum is realy cool, It has very thick fur,
dsb.
• thinking verbs dan feeling verbs untuk
mengungkapkan pandangan pribadi penulis
tentang subjek, mis: Police believe the suspect
is armed, I think it is a clever animal, dsb.
action verbs, misalnya Our new puppy bites our
shoes, dsb.
• abverbials untuk memberikan informasi
tambahan tentang perilaku tersebut, misalnya
in the evening, at the tree house, dsb.

• Describing people
• Describing thing / object
• Describing place
• Describing process
• Describing an event
 1. Describing people
• Adjectives to describes someone’s
appearance :
Blonde hair, fat, thick, short, tall, blue
eyes,etc
• Adjectives to describe someone’s
personalities :
Shy, confident, sociable, lazy, naughty,
helpful, loyal, etc
 Example of describing people entitled “ My Mother ”

I think that my mother is a beautiful

person. She is not tall but not short either, and
she has curly brown hair. Her eyes color are like
honey and her color skin is light brown, and she
has a beautiful smile. Her weight is 120 lbs.
She is a very kind person. She is very
lovely, friendly, patient, and she loves to help
people. I love my mom, because she is a good
example to me. She loves being in the Church,
and she loves singing and dancing too
