Introduction Pronouns are words, such as he, she, or it, that take the place of nouns. Subject pronoun is used as the subject of a verb. An object pronoun can be
used as the object of a verb or the object of a preposition . Eg: • Sally gave the book to John. She , it , him • Him and the girl are going shopping. Him X He • The gift was intended for you and I. A possessive adjective describes a noun.
A possessive pronoun takes the place of a noun. both show who or what owns a noun . However, possessive adjectives and possessive pronouns do not have the same • The possessive pronoun only comes at the end of the sentence OR after the verb never before it. • The possessive pronouns always refer to a noun somewhere before them in the sentence. (mine = my bag/school/car/etc.) Eg: • They lent me their book. Adjective • They lent me theirs. Pronoun • Each morning they read theirs newspapers. • 2. You generally check back in the sentence for agreement.
• Always check what comes after the pronoun. • If there is a NOUN, use POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVES! (my, your, our, his, her, their, its). • If there is NO NOUN after the space, check the position of the pronoun: (after or before the verb, or after a preposition): • If the pronouns before the verb, use a SUBJECT PRONOUN. (I, you, we, they, he, she, it) • If the pronoun is after the verb or after a preposition no matter where the preposition is, use an OBJECT PRONOUN.
