“On land and in the sea, our
fore-fathers lived and survived in this
environment. They were able to do so
because they recognized the need to

conserve it, to take from it only what they

needed to live, and to preserve it for
succeeding generations.”
- Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan

Wild-life Preservation

Sheikh Zayed always knew the importance of preserving a region’s wild-life long
before the world posed it as a major concern, his father always inquired the people to
probe for the topography of the land, after much research sheikh Zayed found out that
this region was once brimming with with vibrant life and teeming with dense forests,
but had collapsed due to an everlasting onslaught of droughts and the gradual change
of climatic conditions.

Sheikh Zayed had a desire to return the UAE back to it’s former conditions and to do
this he had to endeavour on a challenging quest with the tides of the desert against
him.

Reversing Desertification

One of Sheikh Zayed’s most consequential triumph was to turn 3.18% or 317,000
hectares of UAE land into forests.

One of Sheikh Zayed’s most important goals was to transform the desert into green
pieces of land filled with trees and habitual areas.

It was discovered that the desert was affecting the agricultural side of Abu Dhabi, as
sand used to drift onto plantations and suppress the growth of crops. Thus extensive
projects were raised by sheikh Zayed to fight the desert.
