INTRODUCTI
ON
Galvanized Iron (GI) Pipes are manufactured using
mild steel strips of Low Carbon Steel Coils.

Galvanized iron pipes are coated in a layer of zinc

to protect the metal from corrosion and increase
life expectancy.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS:

-The strips are passed through a series of fin rolls to

give them a circular shape.
-The slit ends of the strips are then welded together by
continuously passing high frequency electric current
across the edges.
-The welded steel pipes are then passed through sizing
sections where any dimensional deviations are
corrected. The pipes are then cut into desired lengths
by automatic cutting machines.
-The tubes are then pressure tested for any leaks
randomly.

4. After it is rinsed off, the iron pipe will not
proceed to fluxing. Commonly, zinc
ammonium chloride is used to the base
metal to suppress oxidation of the cleaned
surface.
GRADINGS:- USES AND

PIPES
USES:-
3. CLASS C
CLASS A- yellow colour, light weight and have minimum Water & Sewage pipes
thickness. Cheap in market. Suitable for below grouns use of •Electric poles
cold water service.
•Structural purposes
CLASS B- blue colour, medium weight and medium costing.
•Engineering purposes
CLASS C- red colour, heavy weight and have maximum
thickness, high costing. Pipes of 3M or 6M. •Automotive purposes
•Oil and gas transmissions

•Also used only for soft water

distribution.

LIFE SPAN- Depends upon how much it

corrodes and quality of water, normally
80 years.
BRANDS AND

ADVANTAGE DISADVANTAGE
Anti-Rust: GI Pipes due to their coating of zinc Internal Corrosion: Zinc coat on the outer side
on the outer layer are resistant to rust, protect the steel Pipe from corrosion, however,
however, if a steel pipe is used without any if that zinc coat is cleared from even a small part
coating then the metal will react with water
and moist in air and oxygen and will form rust. of the pipe, the pipe will start to get corrosion
internally and will eventually be full of
Low Cost: GI Pipes are Costlier than MS Pipes,
but if we go for long term usage of Pipes then
GI Pipes are a better choice as MS Pipes will
be needed to be changed after a period of a

No Food Grade Usage: GI Pipes are not food-

GI Pipes will be able to perform around 40 to
