Hoists

 A Hoist is a device used for lifting or lowering a


load by means of a drum or lift wheel around
which rope or chain wraps.
 It may be manually, electrically, or pneumatically
driven and may used chain , fiber, or wire rope as
its lifting medium.
 The load is attached to the hoist by means of a
lifting hook.
 The hoisting is the lifting of the material against
gravity and maybe done with a wide range of
equipments from the small hand operated simple
screw or hydraulic-jack to modern high powered
cranes and elevators.

 A forklift also called lift truck, jitney, fork

powered industrial truck used to lift and move
materials over short distances.
 The forklift was developed in the early 20th
century by various companies, including
Clark, which made transmissions, and Yale
and Towne Manufacturing, which made
hoists.
 Since World War II, the use and development
of the forklift truck habmve greatly expanded
worldwide.
