Abstract
Introduction:
• Reactants are present in definite concentrations at the initial state
of a chemical reaction and it decreases as the reaction proceeds.
Until such time, concentrations do not significantly change and
this state is called chemical equilibrium. At equilibrium, a chemical
reaction proceeds in the forward and backward directions at equal
rates. Temperature, pressure, and concentration can affect the
equilibrium. The effects of change in a reaction of a system at
equilibrium are summarized by Lé Chatelier’s Principle which
states that if stress is applied to a system in equilibrium then, the
system will readjust to reduce the stress.
Methodology:
 Materials:
• 0.2 M aqueous CuSO4 • Dropper
• water (slightly acidified with H2SO4) • Test tubes
• 0.2 M aqueous KI • Solid CuBr2
• evaporating dish • 1.0 M CoCl2
• Cu foil • 10 ml graduated cylinder
• concentrated HNO3 • swcrew-capped test tube
• hot plate • beaker
• 250 mL beaker • water bath
• Ice
 Procedure
• A. Effect of Concentration upon Equilibrium
1. Place 5 drops of 0.2 M aqueous CuSO4 and 40 drops of H2O slightly acidified with
H2SO4 in a test tube. Observe the color. Add up to 5 drops of 0.2 M aqueous KI
drop by drop until a yellow-green color appears.
