Form groups of three or four. List down at least five nouns, verbs,
adjectives, and adverbs connected to the given concepts. You are not
allowed to repeat any word if it has been given in one concept.

Verbals and verbs can be confusing because they look


similar, so it is very important that we know how they
differ from each other to identify and to use them
properly in a sentence.

Verb - puts a subject in motion or offer more clarification on


the condition of the subject.

Example:
I hear the children singing.

The word that describes the action in the sentence is hear.

Verbal - word formed from a verb but acts either as a noun,


as an adjective, or as an adverb .

Example:
I hear the children singing.

The verbal in the sentence is the word singing.

Here are some other examples of sentences with verbals:

1. Running improves not only your cardiovascular system but


also your psychological well-being.

2. We must check all the files to find the exact location of the
virus.

3. Joseph left the restaurant immediately with a sad face and a


broken heart.

Verbal can be formed in several ways.

● It can be formed by adding -ing at the end of the verb as in


the word running.
● It can also be formed by adding the word to before the
verb as in the verbal to find.
● Finally, it can also be formed by adding -en at the end of
the verb as in the word broken.

adverb.

3. A verb and a verbal cannot be used within one sentence.
4. A verbal can only be placed at the beginning of a sentence.

a noun, as an adjective, or as an adverb.

Write verb if the underlined word is a verb, and write verbal if


the underlined word is verbal.

1. Changing a part of a plan the night before the presentation is


unprofessional.
2. The president changed the schedule of some of the employees.
3. A changed man should be given the chance to do good deeds.
4. We must do our best to change our uniform standard of beauty.

5. The school is changing its security guard every month.

and as a verbal in another sentence.

Assignment

1. Revisit a newspaper or a short story you have read


before.
2. Underline the verbals and encircle the verbs present
in the article.
3. Choose 10 verbals from the ones you underlined and
use them to make 10 sentences.
