CHEER DANCE IS A LARGE GROUP OF DANCE, A SPACIOUS FACILITY IS
REQUIRED. FOR CONDUCTING PRACTICES AND HOLDING PERFORMANCES,
VENUE FOR FESTIVAL DANCE PRACTICES AND PERFORMANCES SHOULD BE
EQUIPPED WITH A SOUND SYSTEM AND MEGAPHONES FOR MUSIC AND
SOUND SUPPORT. FIRST-AID KITS AND BASIC MEDICAL EQUIPMENT MUST BE
ON-HANDS FOR IMMEDIATE MEDICAL AID SHOULD MINOR OR SERIOUS
INJURIES OCCUR.

PRECAUTION OF CHEERLEADING
•ACCORDING TO AMERICA ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS COUNCIL ON SPORTS
MEDICINE FITNESS, HIGH RATE OF CATASTROPHIC INJURIES COMMONLY
OCCURS IN CHEERLEADING/CHEER DANCING. AROUND 66% OF THE
CATASTROPHIC INJURIES ARE USUALLY SEEN IN FEMALE CHEERLEADERS.
•IN A STUDY CONDUCTED BY SHIELDS (2009), 60% OF INJURIES WERE
STUNT-RELATED SUCH AS TOSSIN, PYRAMIDS AND TUMBLES. AROUND
84% OF INJURIES OCCUR DURING PRACTICES WHICH IS A CONTRAST IN
OTHER SPORTS WHERE INJURIES OCCURS MOSTLY DURING GAMES.
THE AACCA SUGGESTED THE FOLLOWING TIPS ON
PREVENTING CATASTROPHIC INJURIES IN CHEER
LEADING:
1. CHEERLEADING/CHEERDANCE MUST BE DESIGNATED AS A SPORT TO ALL STATE.
2. ATHLETES SHOULD HAVE A PHYSICAL EXAMINATION AND MUST BE ASSESSED BY
CONDITIONING TRAINERS BEFORE ALLOWING TO JOIN CHEERING SQUADS.
3. CHEERING SQUAD MUST BE SUPERVISED BY QUALIFIED COACHES WHO ARE CERTIFIED
IN PROPER SPOTTING FOR STUNTS, SAFETY AND BASIC PREVENTION OF INJURIES.
4. ATHLETES ESPECIALLY THE BASES AND SPOTTERS MUST HAVE ADEQUATE BODY
STRENGTH, CORE STABILITY AND BALANCE.
PRACTICING OF THE TECHNICAL SKILL OF THE STUNT SUCH AS PRAMAIDS, TOSSING AND
TUMBLES MUST BE DONE IN A SPRING/FOAM OR GRASS/TURF TO LESSEN TO MUCH
CONTACT.
COACHES, ATHLETES AND PARENT MUST HAVE ACCESS EMERGENCY PLANS.
CONDITIONING COACHES AND PHYSICIANS MUST BE ALSO PRESENT DURING TRAININGS IF
POSSIBLE.
ATHLETES WHO HAVE A HISTORY IN INJURY MUST BE STRICTLY ASSESSED BY
PHYSICIANS FIRST BEFORE LETTING HIM/HER JOIN THE CHEERING SQUAD.
COACHES, PARENTS AND ATHLETE MUST A WRITTEN AGREEMENT SIGNED BY ALL
PARTIESS INDICATING THE LNOWLWDGE REGARDING RISK, TENDECIES AND BENEFITS IN
JOINING TO A CHEERING SQUAD.

FIESTAS ARE IMPORTANT TO MANY FILIPINO BECAUSE OF THE

OF EXPRESSING GRATITUDE TO THE SAINTS FOR BEING
REPONSIBLE ON ALL GOOD FOETUNE AND FAVOR RECEIVED.

PART OF THE SOCIETY.
1. PANAGBENGA FESTIVAL, BAGUIO
THIS FESTIVAL IS A MONTH-LONG CELEBRATION THAT TAKES PLACE IN BAGUIO EVERY
FEBRUARY.
SINULOG IS HELD IN CELEBRATION OF ONE OF THE COUNTRY;S MOST FAMOUS HISTORIC RELICS: THE
SANTO NIÑO DE CEBU.
6. KADAYAWAN FESTIVAL
IS AN ANNUAL FESTIVAL THAT TAKES PLACE IN THE PLACE OF DAVAO ON THE THIRD
WEEK OF AUGUST. THE NAME OF THE FESTIVAL IS DERIVED FROM A WARM AND
FRIENDLY GREETING “MADAYAW” WHICH DESCRIBED SOMETHING THAT IS GOOD,
VALUABLE, BEAUTIFUL, OR SUPERIOR.
THE FESTIVAL THANKS GIVING FOR PLENTIFUL BOUNTIES AND GOOD HARVEST.
CELEBRATE THE RICH ETHNIC AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY OF DAVAO AND MINDANAO’S
INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES.
SAYAW MINDANAW, A DANCE COMPETITION WHICH
FEATURES A SET OF DANCES FROM EACH OF THE 11 TRIBES,
IS ANOTHER PROMINENTS FEATURE OF THE KADAYAWAN
FESTIVAL. IN SAYAW MINDANAW, THE PARTICIPANTS ARE
NOT NECESSISARILY MEMBERS OR REPRESENTATIVES OF
THE TRIBES.
