Lesson 1

Introduction to
Systems of Linear
Equations
Objectives

At the end of this lesson, the learner should be able to

• correctly illustrate a system of linear equations in two

variables;

• correctly determine if a given ordered pair is a solution

to a system of linear equations in two variables; and

• accurately illustrate a word problem as a system of

linear equations in two variables.
Essential Questions

• How will you determine if an ordered pair is a solution to

the system of linear equations in two variables?

• How will you illustrate a word problem as a system of

linear equations in two variables?

Guide Questions

● What are the two ways on how to determine if an ordered

pair is a solution to the linear equation?

● Which of the two method is easier to use? Why?

● After substituting the and values of the ordered in the

given linear equation, how can we determine if it is a
solution or not?

System of Linear Equations

1 consist of at least two linear equations with one or two variables each; can be
written in the form where , , , , , and are real numbers, while and , and and
must not be both equal to zero

Example:
and are systems of linear equations with two variables.
