WHAT IS NETIQUETTE

• Netiquette describes the rules of conduct for respectful and


appropriate communication on the internet.

• The correct or acceptable way of communicating on the


internet.

• Two types: Formal and Informal Netiquette


FORMAL NETIQUETTE

• It involves a strict of rules


that are imposed by online
message boards, chat
room and social media
sites.

• Behave and act online as it


defines what “digital citizen
you are”.
INFORMAL NETIQUETTE
• The informal set of rules
and social convention that
govern or at least inform
what is considered to be
acceptable behavior.

• GOLDEN RULE: “DO


UNTO OTHERS AS YOU
WOULD HAVE THEM DO
UNTO YOU”
PLAGIARISM

• The presentation of someone else’s


ideas or words as if they were your
own. Hence, it’s lack of source
acknowlegement.

• To avoid plagiarism, you must always


cite other people’s work, words, ideas
and create an original wrork as much
as you can.
PIRACY

• The practice of downloading and distributing copyrighted


works digitally without permission.

Types of Piracy
• Software - Copyright Infringement
• Film Piracy - illegal download of movies
• Book Piracy - reproduction of other people’s privacy
• Music Piracy - copying and distribution of recordings
COPYRIGHT

• A form of intellectual
property that protects the
original expression of
ideas. It enables creators
to manage how their
content is used.
MOBILE DEVICE NETIQUETTE
Some Mobile Device Etiquette are:
• Watch your language, especially when others can overhear
you.
• Don’t text during class or a meeting at your job.
• Be courteous to those you are with; turn off your phone if it
will be interrupting a conversation or activity.
