E. Characteristics
• Responsible use of media and information refers to
the ethical and thoughtful consumption, sharing,
and dissemination of information through various
media channels. It involves being mindful of the
impact that our actions in the digital world can have
on individuals, society, and the broader global
community.
• Media preferences: Refer to the individual taste and style as
related to media usage.
• Media habits: Are acquired by repeating media consumption
behavior that is initially goal directed.
• Media lifestyle: Refers to how the behaviors are incorporated
into one's life (daily habits).
• Netiquette: The word Netiquette is a combination of
“net”(internet) and “etiquette”. It means respecting other
users’ views and displaying common courtesy when posting
your views.
BASIC RULES IN WEB
NETIQUETTE

1. Refrain from personal abuse. You may express robust

disagreement with what someone says, but don’t call
them names or threaten them with personal violence.
2. Don’t spam. That is, don’t repeatedly post the same
advertisement for products or services. Most sites have strict
and specific rules about who is allowed to post ads and what
kind of ads they are.
3. Write clearly and briefly. On a site that has many non-
native English speakers, avoid using slang they may not
understand.
4. Remember that your posts are public. They can be read
by your partner, children, your parents, or your employer.
• 5. Stay on topic, especially when you’re new.
• 6. Do not post copyrighted material to which you do not
own the rights. Sites vary in how strict they are about this,
but as well as facing the possibility of legal action by the rights
holder, you may also get the site sued.
• 7. The site’s owner, perhaps assisted by one or more
moderators, has the final say in enforcing the rules.
E-mail Etiquette
• To improve the impact of your messages and avoid
trouble, there are few unwritten rules, called netiquette
(networking etiquette) you should be aware of:
• Clearly, summarize your message in the subject line.
• Keep your messages short and focused. Recipients tend to
ignore long messages.
• Don’t write in all CAPITAL LETTERS. Capital letters are used
for emphasis and are considered equivalent to SHOUTING.
IT’S ALSO DIFFICULT TO READ.
• Watch your spelling. Almost all e-mail clients let you know if
you misspell a word. Take advantage of the help.
• Don’t write anything you wouldn’t say in public. It’s easy
for recipients to forward messages to others, which could
leave you in an embarrassing position if you divulge
personal or confidential information.
• Include your name at the bottom of the message.
• If you are e-mailing photos, don’t send anything you
wouldn’t want the entire world to see. Remember, e-mail is
not always private.
Responsible Use of Social
Media(T.H.I.N.K)
• T-Is it True? Do not post anything that contains false or less than true
news and event.
• H-Is it Honoring? You may not agree with others all the time but be
