HISTORY OF

BASKETBALL

 The fist name is basketball. The words of a basket
and a ball.
 Is a team sport, played between two sets of five
players each for four periods or quarters of ten
minutes each4 -twelve minutes each quarter in the
NBA.
 The team's objective is to score points by putting
a ball through the basket, a hoop 3.05 meters
above the court surface from which a net hangs.
 The score for each basket is two or three points,
depending on the position from which the shot is
made, or one point if it is a free throw due to a
foul by an opposing player.
 The winning team is the one with the highest
number of points.
WHO CREATED
BASKETBALL?
 Was created in 1891 by James Naismith, a Canadian and physical
education teacher.
 During a course in game psychology, Gulik raised the need to
created a new discipline capable of performing in a closed
environment to practice it during the winter season.
 He was inspired by several disciplines of the time, such as American
rugby (by passes), English rugby (by jumps) and the “duck on a
rock”, a game of this childhood in which the goal was made by
throwing the ball and embeating it in a basket located at a
considerable height.
 From 1950, basketball was officially recognised as a permanent
winter sport.

 The ball can be thrown in any direction with one or two
hands.
 Fists can never be used.

 You won’t be able to run with the ball in your hand as


without throwing in away.
 The ball will have to be held with your hands, never with
your shoulders.
 The opponent cannot be knocked down in any way. The fist
time rule is violated, it will count as a fault. The second
time the players will be expelled until he is re-entered. If
the fault has been serious or intentional, you will be
expelled.
 If a player comments on three consecutive fouls, it will be
counted as a basket for the opposing team.

 The basket is obtained when the ball is thrown or hit,
enters the basket and stays there.
 If the ball goes beyond the allowed limits, it will be
returned to the field by the player who took it out. In
case of dispute, it will be the arbitrator who does it.
 The ball will be the one who always judges the
players by beeping fouls or violations of the rules.
 The reference will be the one who always judge the

SOME HISTORY
 The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) came
into being in 1932 and the sport made its debut at the
Summer Olympics in 1936. In 1946, the United States'
premier professional league, the National Basketball
Association (NBA), was founded, producing great
players who contributed to basketball's growing
popularity: Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell in the
1960s and, later, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Moses Malone,
Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Michael
Jordan and LeBron James, the latter two considered by
many to be the two greatest players in history.
DIFFERENT TYPES
OF BASKETBALL
 Basketball is one of the most played sports in
the world, with more than 450 million players
in 2013. Numerous leagues and championships
are played around the world, especially in
Europe and more recently in Asia, where the
sport has taken off in the 21st century. Women
represent a large proportion of the players,
despite less media exposure for women's
basketball. Some variants have been
developed, such as wheelchair basketball for
disabled athletes, streetball and 3x3 basketball.

BACKBOARDS
 In 1893, the first backboards were created to keep
fans out of the game without interfering. These were
originally made of wire, as were the baskets.
 In 1904, wood panels became mandatory for safety
reasons, including wire mesh damage.
 In 1909, glass panels became increasingly common
due to their aesthetic appeal.
BASKETBALL
POSITIONS
 Point guard (1). Player who creates play and directs the
team's offense.
 Ford wards (2). Players who stands out for his quickness
and agility; he must be a good ball handler and a good
shooter.
 Low post (1).Player of important presence with a physical
role that serves as an assistant to the center to score
under the hoop and as a ball hog and ball retriever.
 Higher post (1). Player who has the greatest height and
physical strength of the team, his style of play depends on
a great physical ability.
