Appositive
• An appositive is a noun or phrase that renames or
describes the noun to which it is next.
Examples:
• Richard, my brother, is taking me to the airport
Friday afternoon.
• Dr. Smith, a well-known lecturer, will be speaking
at the conference
Direct Address - when the noun
refers to the person who is directly
talked to, called, or address by the
speaker.
Class, you may find this project
unnatural, but this is only at the
beginning.
The word class is used as a direct address.
Direct Address
• It refers to someone directly.
• Either followed or preceded with a comma.
Examples:
• Lisa, I really like your new skirt!
• Mommy, I can't find my shoes.
Subject Complement /
Predicate Nominative -
when the noun used to
identify the subject follow a
linking verb.
