PRESENTED EXAMPLE :
(1) What is the SUM and PRODUCT of the roots of 3x2 - 6x + 8 = 0
BRING DOWN THE VALUES ax2 + bx + c = 0
a =3 , b =-6 , c =8
THEN , SUBSTITUTE THE VALUES :
S U M = - b / a = - (- 6 ) / 3 = 6 / 3 = 2
PRODUCT = c / a = 8 / 3
PRESENTED EXAMPLE :
Write the quadratic equation that has given roots :
(1) Sum = 1 and Product = - 20

SUBSTITUTE THE SUM and PRODUCT :

EQUATION : x 2 - ( 1 ) x + ( - 20) = 0
ANSWER : x 2 - x - 20 = 0
PRESENTED EXAMPLE :
Write the Quadratic Equation given the two roots :
(1 ) r 1 = 5 and r 2 = - 9
Sum = 5 + ( - 9 ) = - 4 and Product = ( 5 )( -9 ) = - 45
SUBTITUTE THE ROOTS :
EQUATION : x 2 - ( - 4 ) x + ( - 45 ) = 0
ANSWER : x 2 + 4x - 45 = 0
APPLICATION USING Sum and Product of roots

PRESENTED EXAMPLE :
(1) The perimeter of the rectangular garden is 70 m and its area is area is 300 m2 .
Find the length and width of the garden .
SOLUTION : Perimeter = 2 ( L + W ) = 70 , SUM = L + W = 70 / 2 = 35
Area = L W = 300 , PRODUCT = LW = 300
EQUATION : x2 - 35 x + 300 = 0 FACTORING : ( x – 20)(x – 15 ) = 0
Length = 20 m , Width = 15 m
