Introduction
WEB PUBLISHING, AS DEFINED BY TECHOPEDIA, IS THE PROCESS OF
PUBLISHING ORIGINAL CONTENT ON THE INTERNET. ITS PROCESSES
INCLUDE BUILDING AND UPLOADING WEBSITES, UPDATING THE
ASSOCIATED WEB PAGES, AND POSTING CONTENTS INTO THE WEB.

This chapter will discuss the processes involved in publishing content

on the internet using different tools, It will also give you guides on
how to manage web content.

GLIMPSE OF HISTORY
Empowerment technology
History of online publishing
Term introduced by Wiliam Dilkhuis in 1977 was the
very first e-publication came in 1980s in the form of
plain text e-mails. They were sent to the subscriber
via a mailing list. 1985 to 1995 was referred to as the
period of digital revolution, a shift from analog to
digital treatment of information.

History of online publishing
This distribution path was abandoned as soon as new tools
became available in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Later, CD-
ROMs appeared to be a medium for e-publishing. It was
rather successful for a number of years and for publications
like encyclopedias, dictionaries atlases, and handbooks.
However, CD-ROMs. soon became unmanageable fOr
libraries because it reguired the installation of a special
client.
Then finally in the years 1994 and 1995 appeared the very
first e-journals.

History of online publishing
The first e-journal to be distributed was Electronics Letters
Online by IEE (Institution of Electrical Engineers). IEE
distributed the journal via OCLC.
Web distribution started in 1995 to 1996 and was an
immediate success the rich format PDF
(Portable Data Format) Now e-publications are already
prepared for downloading into PDAs, personal digital
assistants

Website addresses/Domain names
• A domain name is simply a textual label that
corresponds to a numerical IP address. A web address is
composed of several different parts:

• Sub domain: This is www-but can be different.

• Second-level domain name: The name of your
organization
• Top-level domain name: This can
include.com, .org, etc.

PROMOTION, TRACTION, AND
TRAFFIC MONITORING
An article by European Cooperation in Science
and Technology (COST) entitled, "Data Traffic
Monitoring and Analysis: Theory, Techniques,
Tools and customer Marketing Applications for
the Future Networks" discusses the impact of the
theory on data traffic measurements.

Presentation title 9
• Traffic monitoring and analysis (TMA) has
always been seen as a key methodology to
understand telecommunication technology.
and operation, and the complexity of the
internet has attracted many researchers to
face traffic measurements since the
pioneering times.

Presentation title 10
• The recent advances in the field of TMA suggest
that evolved TMA-based techniques can play a
key role in the operation of real networks. Today,
the lack of insight and early recognition of
emerging risks and/or performance issues can
expose the network infrastructure to stability and
security problems. TMA is therefore the basis for
prevention and response in network security, as
typically the detection of attacks and intrusions
requires the analysis of detailed traffic records
such as packet traces.
Presentation title 11
According to Tolis Dimopoulos, "Traction is a measure of
how well a startup is delivering its business model and how
well its target demographic is accepting that business
model." Chris Cameron, technology journalist, explains:
"Investors want to know that a company can repeatedly
acquire customers for $X and generate more than $X in
gross profit from each customer." The site also discussed
that traction is essentially twofold. One, according to Steve
Blanks, traction is how "your customers are going to adopt
en masse." Two, you can continue to acquire those
customers at a profitable rate.

Presentation title 12
• Your ICT project must be monitored
according to your goals; traction must also
be identified as to setting processes on how
you are going to monitor and evaluate for
a more successful project.

Presentation title 13
EVALUATION THROUGH USER
FEEDBACK
After the website development and Go to the website of
Google goal setting for your ICT project, you must Analytics
and start exploring be able to check how the website runs the
process of analyzing your website's traffic. Scan this and if it
was able to achieve its goals.

SWOT analysis
Strength: What are we good at?
Weakness: What should it be good at, but its not?
Opportunities: What is happening outside the business that
could prove beneficial to the website?
Threats: What is happening outside the business that could
undermine us

Presentation title 15
What is a SWOT analysis?
A SWOT Analysis evaluates the design, content,
code, and governance of a site against a series of
industry standards. If the results of this audit are
negative, it suggests some rework is needed.

Presentation title 16
aspects that could be included in such an audit
are:
DESIGN
architecture: Does the site structure reflect the visitors' expectations?
Design How well does the basic page layout reflect good design
practice?
CONTENT
Appropriateness of Content: Does content match expectations for
subiect matter?
Quality of Content: Is the content authoritative, comprehensive, and
accurate? Has it been written according to web writing guidelines?
Has it been edited?
Presentation title 17
Aspects that could be included in such an
audit
GOVERNANCE
Resource: Did you invest enough in the website in terms of the people and
time needed to manage it?
People: Are there enough people with the right skills to look after
the site?
Processes: Are there documented processes that say how the site is to be
managed and maintained?
Tools: Do staff have adequate tools to complete their work in an efficient
manner?
Based on the results of such a review, you can identify where improvements
are needed.

Open-source Web-based Management Software

Presentation title 19
• According to Nixcraft, project management
software is not kust for managing software-
based project. It can be used for variety of other
tasks too. The web-based software must provide
tools for planning, organizing, and managing
resources to achieve project goals and
objectives.
Web content editors
• Web content editors are responsible for
planning, creating, editing, publishing
information on websites. Thay work in
company communication departments or
external organizations, such as web design
agencies, IT consultancies, and media
companies internal intranets or on the public
internet
Presentation title 21
A web author or editor is likely to get
involved in:
• Producing new content and writing it in an interesting
and appealing manner
• Sourcing images and artwork, and commissioning
photographers
• Liaising with clients or internal departments and
• Maintaining the site once it is live and ensuring the
information is accurate
