constructed between 2006 and 2013, and features a 130-foot-high (40 m)
statue of the Buddha, erected to mark the 2550th anniversary of the birth of
Gautama Buddha, as its main attraction. The site was chosen within the
larger religious complex of Rabong Monastery, itself a centuries-old place of
pilgrimage. Also nearby is Ralang Monastery, a key monastery in Tibetan
Buddhism. Built and installed through the joint efforts of the government and
people of Sikkim, the statue was consecrated in 25 March 2013 by the 14th
Dalai Lama. The Buddhist circuit of the park was built under a state
government project, intended to boost pilgrimage and tourism to the region.

SIDDHESHWAR DHAM

Siddhesvara Dham is situated atop Solophok hilltop, 5 km from

Namchi, has a 108 ft tall statue of Shiva, replicas of 12
Jyotirlingas, models of sacred Chardham Hindu Temples of
Jagannath, Badrinath, Dwaraka and Rameswaram and a 18-feet
statue of Kirateshwar a hunter incarnation of Shiva. The major
attraction is the 108 feet, gigantic statue of Lord Shiva (Hindu
God) in sitting posture, enclosed with twelve Lingas (temples)
spread all over India.
Legends say that right before the battle of Mahabharata, Arjuna
perfomed a tapasya to please Lord Shiva on this hill. Pleased,
he appeared before him and presented the all-
powerful Pashupata astra to slay the most vicious of his
enemies. This entire temple complex, that was opened in 2011
after prana-pratishtha, was built to celebrate the greatness of
Shiva who presented Arjuna with the divine weapon.

NORBUGANG
CHORTEN
BY- SAMAIRAH AHUJA
NORBUGANG CHORTEN
Norbugang Chorten was established during a consecration ceremony that
was held by three learned Lamas headed by Lhatsun Chempo, crowning
the first Chogyal of Sikkim. Lhatsun Chempo had suffixed his own
surname of 'Namgye' to Phunshog who was crowned the Chogyal and
subsequently the king came to be known as Phunshog Namgyal. On this
occasion, the Lepchas and Magarsof the area, who had accompanied
Phunshog to Yuksom Norbugang for the coronation ceremony, had
presented a large number of treasures to the lamas, particularly to Lhatsun
Chempo. After the crowning ceremony was performed by the lamas
according to procedures prescribed in the scriptures, the lamas decided to
build the Trashi-wod-hBar-Chorten at Norbugang. For this purpose, they
collected earth and stones from all parts of Sikkim. They then built the
chorten with the materials collected and also buried within it all the gifts
that Lhatsun Chempo had received from the people. The benediction and
consecration ceremonies performed by the lamas at the Norbugang
Chorten lasted for 21 days.
