What is E - commerce ?

• E – commerce stands foe electronic commerce.

• It means, buying and selling of goods online, with the help of the
internet.

• Customers can pay using credit, debit ,internet banking and in some cases
can even pay on delivery.

• E – commerce first began by exchanging information online. This is


called electronic data interchange
E- shopping
• Nowadays, heaps of internet services are available to promote business
electronically.

• The internet offers you convenient ways to shop from home for almost
anything. Such as games, movies, music, furniture, medicines , apparels
etc.

• This process of selling and buying products over the internet is called E-
commerce / E-shopping.

• Some popular online portals for E- commerce include : Amazon, Ebay


and Flipkart.
Advantages of E- commerce

1. Convenience : online shopping enables you to shop from hope, so you


do not have to go to a store physically. It has been very useful
especially during this pandemic, to purchase good without leaving the
safety of our homes.
2. Information and reviews : an online store provides reviews on the
products, which help customers get a better idea of the quality of the
product.
3. Filters : we can apply filters. These let us choose which brands,
colours and the minimum and maximum price of the item being
shown to us
Disadvantages of E – commerce

1. No personal touch : you don’t get to try on the clothes, shoes,


accessories etc.
2. Security issues : data security is an important issue, making payments
online isn’t completely safe; thee are sites online that do not encrypt
personal data.
3. Shipping cost : sometimes, a website does not offer free shipping, in
conclusion, the cost of the product is increased.
4. Returning a product : sometimes, returning a product you are not
satisfied with can turn into a hassle.
5. Risk of fraud : there is a huge risk of fraud when shopping online, sometimes, sites sell
bad quality products at low prices , they may take payment information or may take payment
but will not deliver product etc
E – reservation

• E – reservation means making an appointment or reservation for a service via


the internet. Using e- reservation, you can check the availability of seats in a
bus, train or aircraft.

• Examples of such websites are : www.makemytrip.com ,


www.bookmyshow.com , www.yatra.com etc
Advantages of E – reservation
1. Accessible anywhere : buying an e- ticket and online booking is
the most convenient method for booking a car, hotel or flight
etc.
2. Discounts and offers : you can check multiple websites and
choose the ones with the best price.
3. Commission free : hides commission fee as there is no third
party involved.
4. Quick : e – reservations are very easy and fast.
5. Easy cancellations : changes and cancellation of tickets can be
done immediately.
Importance of a strong password
When we register at various sites, we have to use a username and
password. If you lose the passwords to your emails, bank accounts
etc , you could face severe problems.
Following are the precautions you can take :

1. Use a strong password, which have a combination of upper and lowercase


letters, numbers and special characters.
2. Do not use easy to guess passwords.
3. Never write your password anywhere
4. Always use a different password for each account.
5. Do not store passwords in browser unless you are the only one using the
device.
