NON VERBAL COMMUNICATION:

• The Non-Verbal Communication is the process of conveying meaning without the


use of words either written or spoken. In other words, any communication made
between two or more persons through the use of facial expressions, hand
movements, body language, postures, and gestures is called as non-verbal
communication.
• There are two types of Non Verbal Communication:
 Sign Language
 Body Language.
SIGN LANGUAGE:

• Communication with the help of signs and symbols are called sign language.
• There are two types of sign language:
• Visual Signs
• Audio Signs.
VISUAL SIGNS:

• Visual Communication, as the name suggests, is the graphical representation of a


message by one party to convey something to another. It involves transmission and
interpretation of information by way of visual resources, that can be read or viewed.
• Visual communication is something that we deal with, in our day to day life, like
books, posters, logos, ads, charts, graphs, icons, sketches, screen-based media, clip
art, etc. A “clock” is one of the best examples of visual communication. Come, let’s
understand explore some more examples:

AUDIO SIGNS:
• Audio Signals communicate the intended emotions in the form of sounds that
are different for varying emotions. Some common examples for Audio signals
are the Alarm clock which sets time for waking up and many other activities.
• Drumbeats, Fire Alarms, Work Shift Alarms, VIP Vehicle Alarms are some more
examples for Audio signals that are commonly understood by people.
BODY LANGUAGE:

• Body language is a type of nonverbal communication in which physical


behaviours, as opposed to words, are used to express or convey the information.
Such behaviour includes facial expressions, body posture, gestures, eye
movement, touch and the use of space. Body language exists in both animals
and humans. It is also known as kinesics.
• Although body language is an important part of communication, most of it
happens without conscious awareness.
HEAD:

• Communication with the help of using head for expressing or conveying something is part of
body language.

We jerk our head up and down for


approval and left and right for
disapproval.
FACE:
The human face is extremely expressive, able to convey countless emotions without
saying a word. And unlike some forms of nonverbal communication, facial expressions
are universal. The facial expressions for happiness, sadness, anger, surprise, fear, and
disgust are the same across cultures.
EYE:
Eye contact is an especially important type of nonverbal communication. The way you
look at someone can communicate many things, including interest, affection, hostility, or
attraction. Eye contact is also important in maintaining the flow of conversation and for
gauging the other person’s interest and response.
GESTURES:
Gestures are movements made with body parts (example hands, arms, fingers, head, legs)
and they may be voluntary or involuntary. Gestures are woven into the fabric of our daily
lives. You may wave, point, beckon, or use your hands when arguing or speaking
animatedly, often expressing yourself with gestures without thinking.

POSTURE:

POSTURE CAN CONVEY A WEALTH OF INFORMATION ABOUT HOW A PERSON IS


FEELING AS WELL AS HINTS ABOUT PERSONALITY CHARACTERISTICS, SUCH AS
WHETHER A PERSON IS CONFIDENT, OPEN, OR SUBMISSIVE.
SILENCE:

• As the word suggest Silence generally means the absence of any kind of noise. But in
communication, it is seen as an absence of speech. So, the absence of speech doesn’t
mean that the person is not communicating with the other person. Silence is a very
powerful form of communication.
• Constructive silence moves a conversation or discussion forward. Destructive silence
shuts down communication and creates barriers that discourage speakers from
expressing their thoughts.
