DEFINITION OF TEST
 A test is a device or technique used to measure the
performance, skill level or knowledge on a specific
matter.
 A test may be subjective or objective
 Test may be a specific tools.
 Test means an “instrument” to used for accurate
measurement of anything.
 It may be written question paper(for mental testing) or
measuring tape, thermometer, weighing scale etc. (for
physical testing).
 Test is a form of questioning or measuring tool used to
assess the status of one’s skill, knowledge, attitudes or
fitness.
According to Barrow et al., 1989

“Test means a specific tools of


measurement for the collection of data
and obtaining responses from the
persons being measured”.
Definition of measurement
 Measurement is the use of test and techniques to collect
information or data about a specific skill or fitness level of
an individual.
 It is a specific score with specific unit collected by teacher
or supervisor after application of test.
 For example- If a tester want too apply a test measuring
height and weight of subject calculating Body Mass
Index(BMI)-
Measurement Score Unit BMI
Weight 60 or 600 Kg or gm 2
20.76 kg/m
Height 1.7 or 170 M or cm
 It is a process of collecting information of data.
 It is generally result in quantitative data.
According To Barry L Johnson And Jack
Nelson-
“measurement aids evaluation process in
which various tools and techniques are used in
collection of data”.
 Measurement is an aid to evaluate it consist of
numerical values or scientific scores by and
expert.
 It also known as raw score.
Definition Of Evaluation
 It is a process of collecting and summarizing the data
and comparing the result to set criteria to draw
conclusion.
 It is the process of “interpreting analysing and
assessing” the data obtain from test.
 It can be either subjective or objective.
 It is the process of determining the result and conclusion
of the test about the current status of the subject and it
provide value or worth of measurement which is
collected through test.
 It is a technique by which we come to know at what
extent the objective are being achieved
According To Hopkins And Stanley, 1981-
“Evaluation can be either subjective or
objective. It is the judgement of what the
numerical measurement data actually mean”

According to united nations evaluation


group(UNEG)-
“An evaluation is an assessment, as
systematic and impartial as possible, of an
activity, project, programme, strategy, policy,
topic, theme, sector, operational area,
institutional performance…”

 For knowing the abilities and capacities.
 For discovering the needs of participants.
 For motivation.
 For classification of sportspersons.
 For knowing the achievements in future.
