ORIENTATION TO 3Fs RESEARCH

Background
HAI is managing a 6 year(2017-2022) multi-country Accountability and
Fulfilment for Older Persons to Raise their Dignity (AFFORD II)
Social protection programme, funded by Irish Aid.
The AFFORD II programme is being implemented in 4 countries, namely,
Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania.
The goal of the AFFORD II programme is to enable older women and men
in 4 targeted African countries to lead a more dignified, healthy, secure
and resilient lives.
Focus on enhanced accountability of Governments and implementers to
older people,
Empowerment of older people to claim their rights, are requirements of
the development of inclusive, effective and rights-based social protection
systems.
What is the problem?
•COVID-19 + Russia-Ukraine= Financial, Food and Fuel crisis +poverty which has worsened the
poverty of OP.
•The crises >rise in prices >OP+vulnerable groups >no longer afford sufficient food and other
amenities
•Issues: AWARENESS? GOV PRIORITY? DATA?
•HAI +AFFORD II staff +
•partners+network members in Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, and Tanzania to engage with
governments reps, DPs,OPs, to assess and monitor the socio-economic impact of the multiple
(Financial, Food and Fuel) crisis on the well-being of older people in the four countries.
•The findings will be used to make policy recommendations and strategic interventions needed
to mitigate the crisis.
•Need for data collection and transcribing of issues coming out from the 4 countries.
