GENERATION OF COMPUTER
First Generation Computer (1940-1956)
1. Speed was quite low and power
consumption was very high.

2. Programming capacity was very low.

3. They could not store much Data.

4. They were huge in size and very


expensive.
Second Generation Computer (1956-1963)

1. They were more energy-efficient and


reliable.

2. Their operating speed was higher.

3. COBOL and BASIC were developed


in this generation.
Third Generation Computer (1964-1971)

1. They were smaller and cheaper than their


earlier counter parts.

2. They used an operating system that


allowed running of many different
programs simultaneously.
Forth Generation Computer (1971-1980)

1. Computers become more advanced in


terms of processing and memory
capacities.

2. It led to the development of Personal


Computers (PCs).

3. In 1981, IBM introduced its first


computer for the home user.

4. In 1984, Apple introduced Macintosh.


Fifth Generation Computer (1980-on Present)

1. Programming computers to play games such


as chess and checkers.

2. Systems that attempt to reproduce the types


of physical connections that occur in animal
brains to simulate intelligence.

3. Programming computers to see hear and react


to other sensory stimuli.
