Territorial Conflicts

– It refers to the border conflict which occur when two


or more countries disagree over the possession of
land or bodies of water.

NATIONAL TERRITORY

– The national territory comprises the Philippine archipelago, with all the islands
and waters embraced therein, and all other territories over which the
Philippines has sovereignty or jurisdiction, consisting of its terrestrial, fluvial and
aerial domains, including its territorial sea, the seabed, the subsoil, the insular
shelves, and other submarine areas. The waters around, between, and
connecting the islands of the archipelago, regardless of their breadth and
dimensions, form part of the internal waters of the Philippines.

– All members shall refrain in their international relations


from the threat or use of force against the territorial
integrity or political independence of any state, or in any
other manner inconsistent with the purposes of the
United nations.
Importance of Territorial and
International Boundaries
1. It is related to the right of each state and country.
2. This is important in maintaining peace in the whole
world
Other Territorial Problems

A. It is very hard for the armed forces to guard our territory.


B. Imported goods are smuggled in the Philippines
C. Some countries have modern and innovative maritime vessels which makes it
easier for them to enter Philippine territory and steal natural resources.
D. Most of the military equipment in the Philippines are outdated.
Effects of Territorial Conflicts

– 1. Make the state more unified and stronger.


– 2. some politicians tend to take advantage of the tension and use it as means to
have more power.
– 3. The increasing number of civil wars around the world has been the cause of
decline of some states.
– 4. Globalization has made it possible to have a world without borders.
