The Potentiality of Banana Fiber as an Innovative Cement

Fiber Board and the Level of Satisfaction among

Construction Workers of New Corella
CHAPTER 1

Rationale
Agricultural waste such as banana residues amounts to about billions of tons annually and without
adequate treatment, these solid wastes can pose several problems and have a significant impact on the long-
term viability of connected sectors and society (Millati & Taherzadeh, 2019).

In finding alternative techniques to solve this issue, Albaji et.al (2021) came up with the concept of using
industrial and agricultural waste materials in concrete to help compensate for the shortage of natural resources,
solve the waste disposal problem, and create new ways to help improve our environment. The prevalence of
waste management remained an issue, pandemic or not, which urged the researcher to conduct the study to
find ways to assist in the reduction of agricultural waste, particularly banana fibers, and develop it as an
innovative product in the area, considering both of its economic and environmental benefits.
This study aims to determine the Potentiality of Banana Fiber as an Innovative cement fiber board and The Level of Satisfaction among

consumers of New Corella.

Specifically, this study seeks to answer the following queries:

1. To describe the level of The Potentiality of Banana Fiber as an Innovative cement fiber board in terms of:

1.1 Material Affordability;

1.2. Material Availability;

1.3. Potentiality; and

1.4. Eco-Friendly

2. To describe the Level of Satisfaction among consumers in terms of:

2.2. Cost- effectivity;

2.3. Efficiency; and

2.4. Durability

3. To determine the significant relationship between The Potentiality of Banana Fiber as an Innovative cement fiber board and the Level of

Satisfaction among consumers of New Corella.

4. To determine which domain on The Potentiality of Banana Fiber that significantly predicts the Level of Satisfaction among Construction

Workers of New Corella.

METHODOLOGY

Research Design
The researcher uses quantitative research design specifically, the descriptive-correlational approach. The related data
have gathered through the given questionnaires as the main data gathering tool in assessing the level of potentiality of
banana fiber as an innovative cement fiber board and the level of satisfaction among consumers in New Corella .
Research Subject

The sample size of this study is in alignment to Dudovskiy (2018) where researchers made self-administered questionnaire and
was used to survey a purposive sample of twenty (20) small business operators. In this case, we should be able to gather twenty (20)
construction workers who are more knowledgeable about concrete composition and will be able to compare it with synthetic cement
fiber boards. The term construction worker can be used to cover a huge number of roles within the industry, but typically it refers to
someone who performs a variety of general construction tasks during all phases of a construction project. (Go Construct, 2022)

Research Locale
This study is to be conducted at the Municipality of New Corella, Davao del Norte during the year 2022 which will
become the main setting of the researchers for gathering the data.
The questionnaire for the potentiality of Banana will then be rated by the selected local respondents of the
aforementioned location study. The responses from the participants would also include their level of satisfaction with the
fiber boards in terms of cost- effectiveness, quality, efficiency and durability.

Research Instrument
This study made use of two sets of researcher-constructed questionnaires. These will be
validated by the panel members. The first tool was the questionnaire designed to elicit the
responses on the potentiality of The Potentiality of Banana Fiber as an Innovative Cement Fiber
Board. The other set of research instrument was the questionnaire which was utilized to gather
data on the level of satisfaction among the construction workers of New Corella. Both
questionnaires will be rated by those who are involved in the study, residing in New Corella, Davao
del Norte, Philippines.
The following rating scale is employed for determining the Potentiality of The following rating scale is employed for determining the

RESULTS
Conclusions
The following conclusion were drawn from the result of the study:

1. The overall mean on the Potentiality of Banana Fiber in terms of Material Affordability,

Material Availability, Potentiality and Eco-friendly is Very High.

2. The overall mean on the Level of Satisfaction in terms of Quality, Cost- effectivity, Durability

is Very High.

3. There is a significant relationship between the Potentiality Banana Fiber and the Level of

Satisfaction among Construction Workers.

4. The domain in the Potentiality of Banana Fiber that best predict the Level of Satisfaction

among Construction Workers is material availability.

Recommendations
Based on the outcomes and implications of the study, the following are
recommended:
1. Encourage general public to learn the importance of recycling different
types of agricultural wastes.
2. Explore the other and deeper potential uses of banana fiber to reduce
the volume of agricultural wastes by using it as an alternative product
in locale considering both economic and environmental benefits.
3. The study should not be only conducted in New Corella but also in all
Municipalities.
4. Future researchers shall conduct further studies about the potentiality
of banana fibers in a larger local.
