My class always starts at 6:00 in the morning. Routinely activities are made
before I started my class discussion. I checked the attendance to identify
students who are absent and late. Unfortunately, few students are coming to
my class late. One said that his house was quite far. Presently, this
manifestation is occurring in one of my classes.

Guide Question
• Why is this problem needs to be addressed immediately?

• Why is this problem needs immediate solution?

Sample:
As of this month, two students have violated our
classroom rule and maybe or sooner more students
will be committing tardiness if this will not be
addressed. After knowing this scenario, I already
sent a letter to the parents of these students for
conference. I also informed their adviser.
Unfortunately, the conference is moved next week
due to the personal engagement of the teacher. I
exerted efforts for them to be reminded or realized
the value of attending the class early for them not to
miss the discussion or group activity. Yet, the issue
still exists.

Context and Rationale - 2nd Paragraph

• This paragraph talks about your Plan of

Action
Guide Question:
What do you intend to do?
Sample: 2nd Paragraph

Starting next week, I will be implementing a 50-point

scheme in my first-period class. My subject is Science 10
and the first quarter covers Earth and Space. After I had
oriented them on the classroom rules and school
policies, I made a run-through on the contents of the first
quarter. A lot of activities were reflected in the first
quarter. I shared with them the grading system where
performance task covers 40 percent of their individual
grade. When I resume teaching next week, I will be
sharing my 50-point scheme.
This scheme entitles each group to receive 50 points
every week with the condition that no member in their
group will come to class late. Every member who comes
to class late every day will be deducted by two points. If
there are four members in the group who comes to
class late, a total of 8 points will be deducted in a
particular group. This scheme will be done every day.
The points will be tallied every week. So, this scheme
calls for collaboration among the members of the group.
The leader of the group will be given a bigger
responsibility to remind him/her groupmates to come
to class early in order to avoid unnecessary
deductions of their points. Correspondingly, this
scheme is expected to elicit change among the
behaviors of the students. With this, I believed my
students would become particular on the points that
they might earn since this formed part of their
performance.

Context and Rationale – 3rd Paragraph

• This paragraph talks about the Significance

of your Study

• Guide Question:
Why is this study important?
Sample: 3rd Paragraph

I believe as a teacher that teaching the content is not

only my primary purpose but also, I need to impart to my
learners the value of time and being responsible. They
need to learn that it is important not to be late in class or
in the future not to be late at work. They also need to
realize that there is a consequence and hopefully they
will bring this information when they grow up.
Context and Rationale - 4th Paragraph

Guide Question:
• What would be the potential contribution or insight of my research?
• Additional guide questions based on DM 144 s. 2017 Enclosure No. 2:

1. Will it solve a particular problem?

2. Will it offer a new way of thinking?
3. Will it give a new enhancement of practice?
4. Will it prove/ disprove something?
5. Will it solve/ contribute to a certain debate?
6. Will it add evidence to a developing body of knowledge?
7. Will it develop a new theory. Prototype, model, process, tool, etc.?

Action Research Question
Research questions are questions that SBAR sets out to
answer. Choosing a research question is an essential
element of both quantitative and qualitative research. ...
Good research questions seek to improve knowledge on
an important topic, and are usually narrow and specific.
Describing the Action Research Questions
a. Begin by referring to your reflection and purpose of your action
research and read again your related literature and studies.

b. State your primary research question. Make sure that this question is
aligned with your purpose and what you want to find out in this study.

c. Your question should include the intervention you will use and the
outcome you desire
Describing the Action Research Questions
d. You may state not more than three (3) secondary questions.

e. The questions should clearly relate to the identified problem

or issue and convey the desired change or
improvement.

f. Questions have to be arranged logically.

Proposed Innovation,
Intervention, or Strategy
 A detailed explanation or
elaboration of a paragraph in
Context and Rationale (CR)
Describing the Innovation, Intervention, and Strategy

a. You should be able to explain in detail the intervention you will

use in your study.

b. Include its rationale, objectives, and the extent of limitation of the

innovation, intervention, and strategy.

c. You must also describe how likely this innovation, intervention,

and strategy will address the problem or issue.
Describing the Innovation, Intervention, or Strategy
d. Always consider that a colleague could also use your plan
in his or her own setting.

e. If your study is a collaborative research, describe who will

be collaborating with you and their possible contribution
to your action research. Explain each collaborator’s role
and how work will be shared in the collaborative group.
IMPORTANT NOTES TO CONSIDER IN WRITING YOUR PARAGRAPHS

1. In writing your paragraph we start by stating our topic sentence followed by our supporting details and in
the end we will have our concluding statement.
2. Our topic sentence is based on the strategy, we will explain its effectiveness, then,
3. We will now find some related studies to support our claim that our strategy is effective (supporting detail)
In finding your related study you need to have patience because you need to read a lot of articles.
Look for the name of the author and date it was published
You can choose either to write the information or use the feature in MS Referencing
Choose which statement best fits your claim that can support you.
After finding the statement try to understand it better then PARAPHRASE IT (meaning explain it using
your own words) before citing it to your paper.
4. At the end of the paragraph we will reflect on the what you have cited whether it is good or it contradicts
(concluding statement).
Cite at least five prominent works supporting
your interventions. ( This can be
compromised)
Action Research Method
Research design is the framework of research methods and
techniques chosen by a researcher. ... The type of research
problem an organization is facing will determine the
research design and not vice-versa. The design phase of a
study determines which tools to use and how they are used.
Describing Action Research Methods
 Research Design
 Sample/Participants, Sources of Data and
Information
 Data Collection Method(s)
 Data Analysis
Be guided by the following:

a. The proposal should include an explanation why the

research method is suited to the nature and purpose of
the action research.

b. Details are provided about the participants of the study.

Clear rationale for their inclusion in the study is given.

c. The Data Gathering Method should be aligned with the

research questions.
Be guided by the following:

d. Research instrument/s are appropriate for

obtaining the desired data/information

e. The selected method of data analysis is shown to

be appropriate to the nature of the
data/information to be gathered and for
addressing the research question(s)
Types of Quantitative Designs
Types of Qualitative Research Designs
Preparing the Work Plan and Timelines
a. A detailed work plan is provided covering start to completion of the
action research.

b. Timelines are realistic and show concretely how the action research
will unfold over the allowed period.

c. The overall plan reflects the proponent’s capacity to concretize

ideas into clear and sequential steps to be undertaken.

d. A Gantt Chart or a Time Table to present the work plan may be used.
Example of a Time Table:

Estimated
Time
Activities / Responsible Desired
Objectives Allotment /

Preparing the Cost Estimates
a. A detailed breakdown of items with their corresponding
costs should be furnished. The items and costs should
reasonably reflect the funding needs of the action research,
and adhere to the BERF guidelines for those who wish to
avail of the Basic Education Research Fund (BERF).

b. The overall plan reflects the proponent’s capacity to project

specific expenses.
a. Indicate the projected cost and consider the following items of expenditures:
 Supplies and materials
(Provide specific items. For example: bond papers, pens, printer ink, stapler, etc.)
 Communication expenses
(mails, call cards, internet use, etc.)
 Transportation expenses
(taxi hire, jeepney fare, tricycle fare, etc.)
 Reproduction, printing, and binding costs
(photocopy, etc.)
 Food and other expenses during the conduct of the research and data gathering
(meals and snacks, etc.)
 Expenses related to research dissemination
(tarpaulin, tarpaulin stand, etc.)
For a BERF research, the amount should not exceed:
