OBJECTIVE STRUCTURED CLINICAL EXAMINATION

Presented by
SHIJU VARGHESE PG
Introduction
• OSCEs were developed in the late '70s & their use has now spread
for both undergraduate & postgraduate exams.
• They are objective as each candidate is presented with the same
test.
• Each test or "station" is structured with a check list and global
judgement
• OSCEs test 4 main areas of competence, History taking,
Explanation, Clinical examination and Procedures (examination
using manikins etc)
• OSCEs are a test of the performance of clinical skills, the candidates
have to demonstrate their skills, not just describe the theory
