AEROBIC AND

ANAEROBIC
EXERCISES

Q2: LESSON 2
OBJECTIVES
+ Differentiate aerobic from anaerobic
respiration, and
+ Enumerate the benefits of aerobic and
anaerobic exercises on our body
AEROBIC EXERCISES
+ “Aerobic exercise stimulates the heart rate and
breathing rate to increase in a way that can be
sustained for the exercise session. On the other hand,
the word anaerobic, which means ‘without oxygen,’
is a form of exercise that causes you to be out of
breath quickly.”
AEROBIC EXERCISES
+ jogging + stair climbing
+ brisk walking + cycling
+ swimming laps + elliptical training
+ aerobic dancing, like + rowing
Zumba
+ cross-country skiing
ANAEROBIC EXERCISES
+ Anaerobic respiration is the process of the quick release of a limited
amount of energy from the incomplete breakdown of glucose without
oxygen. Anaerobic respiration occurs when the muscles are forced to
work so hard that the lungs and bloodstream cannot deliver enough
oxygen to respire the available glucose aerobically. On the other hand,
the building up of lactic acid can cause acute fatigue, called oxygen
debt. When there is oxygen debt, a refund must be done by performing
continuous deep breathing after exercise.
ANAEROBIC EXERCISES
+ high intensity interval training (HIIT)
+ heavy weightlifting
+ calisthenics, like plyometrics, jump squats, or
box jumps
+ sprinting (while running, cycling, or swimming)
