The Human Respiratory System

Introduction to the
Human Respiratory
System

The Respiratory System is what controls breathing.

It brings in the oxygen your body needs and gets rid

of the carbon dioxide that is left over. If you didn’t

breathe you would pass out or die.

How the Human Respiratory
System Works
The Respiratory System helps you
breathe. When the human body
breathes air, it gets sucked
through the nostrils or the mouth.
Then it goes through the trachea
(wind pipe). The trachea divides
into tubes called bronchi which
carry the air on to each lung.
Some More Ways the Human
Respiratory System Works
The diaphragm pulls the
oxygen down to the
bronchi and into the lungs.
Then, it goes into a million
moist air sacks which
expand and contract like a
sponge with water.
Caring for Your Respiratory
System
You should take care of your Respiratory System
because if you don’t you won’t be able to breathe.
Using drugs can keep your brain from telling your
lungs to breathe. Smoking can make your lungs turn
black and not work well.Breathing clean air is
healthiest for you. Exercise keeps your lungs strong.
More Amazing Facts About the
Respiratory System
Did You Know That...

•The fastest recorded “ sneeze speed” is 165 km per
hour?
• It is healthier to breathe through your nose than your
