COVID19: An unprecedented global crisis

Never has the world experienced a massive


health, social and economic crisis.

● Travel and tourism is at a standstill – a majority of


air transport has come to a halt, hotels are closed,
and countries have fortified their borders by
imposing restrictions to visitors.

● A double-digit decrease of 22% in ITA was recorded


in the 1st Quarter of 2020 with March arrivals down
by 57%.

● COVID19 and its accompanying effects is the worst that


international tourism has faced since 1950.

● The steep drop in tourist arrivals has disrupted the record


gains made in ITA during the 2009-2019 period.
