“We do not learn from experience ...
we learn from reflecting on
experience.”

IB learner profile
“Reflective: We thoughtfully
consider the world and our own
ideas and experience. We work to
understand our strengths and
weaknesses in order to support our
learning and personal
development.”
Reflective is one of the 10
attributes of the IB learner
profile. We know that reflecting
on our learning helps us move
forward. You might wish to use
the IB learner profile attributes
as a tool to help you reflect on
your learning.

Explain the
impact of the

of the
project you

Think–pair–share

• What did I learn since I started

the personal project?

• What advice would I give to

someone starting the personal
project?

• What am I most proud of

achieving through the personal
project?

Evaluating your product
Did you • Comment on each of your success criteria.
achieve • Describe the extent to which you met each
your criterion.
• State whether there were any unexpected
success features that you achieved.
criteria?

• Gather evidence to show the success

criteria that you met.
How do • Give evidence or examples to explain why
you know? you were unable to meet other success
criteria.

Reflecting on the impact of the project
Because the personal project consists of a process and a product,
it can result in a variety of impacts:

Possible impacts of the learning goal Possible impacts of the product

● Demonstrating and developing ● Meeting a need in the

specific ATL skills community
● Extending knowledge about an area of ● Showcasing the students’ skills
interest or abilities
● Gaining confidence by completing an
independent project

Reflecting on the impact on you
You need to think about the process you went through to complete
the personal project and the impact that it had on you.
Think about questions like:
• Did you gain new knowledge?
• Did you make a difference in the world around you?
• Have you changed throughout the process?
• How will you use the knowledge that you’ve gained in the
future?
• How will you use the skills that you’ve developed in the
future?

Reflection prompts
If you did not meet all your success criteria, it does not mean you
have not been successful overall. When reflecting, you might want
to ask yourself:
• Were my success criteria too easy or too difficult?
• How did the ATL skills contribute to the success of my
product?
• How did the ATL skills contribute to the success of my
learning?
• What was in my control? What was outside of my
control?
• What would I do differently if I started again?
• What progress did you make towards your learning
goal?
• How have you grown or changed as a result of the
project?
• How has your project changed you as a learner?

Important to consider
Criterion C
• Evaluating does not only mean to present results from a survey or the views
of others in Cii, since this does not mean that only in that way you are
evaluating the product, but rather communicating data. If students choose
to survey others for opinions on the quality of their product, at a minimum
you have to interpret that data to make an appraisal of the product’s quality,
by weighing up strengths and limitations.

• Evaluate the quality of your product, by systematically using your success

criteria. Simply describing the various aspects of the product(even if aligned
with the success criteria) will not qualify as an evaluation, since the
command term “evaluate” requires candidates make an appraisal by
weighing up strengths and limitations.

• -When evaluating your product, you should carefully select evidence or

detailed examples to support your claims made against each of your
success criteria.

In the report
At the end of the personal project, you will submit a report
with a section about this phase of the project. You will need
to:

• explain the impact of the project on yourself and/or

your learning
• evaluate your product based on the success criteria
• support your reflection with detailed examples and
evidence.

Exhibition or
showcase

Your school may also have a

showcase or exhibition for all
students to present their
projects. This is also a chance to
reflect—but more importantly—
to celebrate your hard work!

Report Writing. Docs to submit to MB

Report Writing

• The work is anonymous, and candidates have not included

their name, personal code, session number or name of the
school on any page.
• • No links have been embedded into the work as these
cannot be considered by examiners (maybe only to show your
product but there is no guarantee that examiners will look at it). Instead
submit screenshots, screencasts or audio/video files of
material/evidence.
• • File sizes are as small as possible without negatively
affecting the quality of work and PDF page sizes are set to
A4/letter.
