• What is DNA structure and function?
• The genetic information stored in an organism's DNA contains
the instructions for all the proteins the organism will ever
synthesize. In eucaryotes, DNA is contained in the cell nucleus.
A DNA Molecule Consists of Two Complementary Chains of
Nucleotides. The Structure of DNA Provides a Mechanism for
Heredity.
What is the backbone of dna
• phosphate backbone
• A phosphate backbone is the portion of the DNA double helix
that provides structural support to the molecule. DNA
consists of two strands that wind around each other like a
twisted ladder. Each strand has a backbone made of alternating
sugar (deoxyribose) and phosphate groups.
What are the functions of dna
• Functions of DNAGenetic Information: DNA transfers genetic information from one
generation to the next generation.Replication: DNA can replicate itself.
• It allows the transfer of genetic instructions from old cells to new cells (Or, from one
generation to the next generation).
• Transcription: DNA creates RNAs (Ribonucleic Acid) through the process of transcription.
• Cellular Metabolism: It regulates the metabolic functions of the cells with the help of
hormones, enzymes, and specific RNAs
• .Development: It regulates the development of cells in an organism through the internal
genetic clock.
• DNA Finger Printing: Every human develops its own DNA sequence that does not match
with others. So, this unique property of DNA is very useful in DNA fingerprinting, a
technique used to identify an individual from his or her DNA
Splitting of dna
• DNA contains four building blogs: guanine, adenine, thymine, and
cytosine.A single chromosome anywhere between 50 million and 250
million base pairs. There are around 3 million DNA bases in our
genome.Paternity DNA tests compare DNA between a father and
child.
• DNA tests can help you understand your risk for genetic diseasesDNA
is found in all living thingsForensics DNA testing looks at 13 specific
segments of DNAThroughout evolution, humans have lost over 500
DNA codesWe share 40-50% of identical DNA with cabbage9% of our
DNA is the same as other humans
