ACTIVITY 1: COMIC STRIP – IN THE GARDEN
One lovely morning, in the Garden of Nowhere,
Tree, Sunlight, Air, Soil, and Water had a small
talk. They tried to figure out why are they living
in harmony? This short conversation was initiated
by Tree followed by Light, Water, Air, and Soil
ABIOTIC
COMPONENTS
A. AIR
• is the gas that surrounds the Earth and which all living organisms breathe.
• It is a combination of different gases, of which 78 percent is nitrogen and 21
percent is comprised of oxygen.
• During photosynthesis, plants release oxygen that animals and people use to
produce the energy they need to survive.
• In turn, people and animals give off carbon dioxide that plants need. This
give and take relationship takes place repeatedly.
• The continuous exchange of gases by plants and animals in the environment
is called the oxygen-carbon dioxide cycle
B. LIGHT
• The main source of light on earth is sunlight, which
is a very important component of an ecosystem.
• Plants need it to manufacture their food through
photosynthesis.
• Plants are food sources for many animals.
• The sun likewise provides the energy that animals
need for respiration.
C. SOIL
• The mixture of air, broken rocks, water, and the
remains of decaying organisms that comprises the
topmost layer of the surface of the earth
• The quality of the soil in a place determines the
kind of plants that can grow in it and affects the
growth of these plants
D. WATER
• comes mainly from the clouds in the form of rain or snow.
• Much of it falls on plants, with plants absorbing the water in their
roots and using it in photosynthesis.
• Some amounts are collected in wetlands and in bodies of water.
The rest are absorbed by the soil.
• Much of this water is taken in by animals.
• Depending on the temperature in the area, at some point water
evaporates into the atmosphere and the water cycle is repeated.
