LITERATURE
The English language has developed over the
course of more than 1,400 years. The earliest
historical form of English. A set of Anglo-Saxon
Settlers in the 5th century, are called old
English.
Middle English began in the late 11th century with
the Norman conquest of England.
Early Modern English began in the 15th century
with the introduction of the printing press to
london and the king James Bible as well the
Great Vowel Shift.
BEOWULF
It may be the oldest surviving
long poem in Old English and
is commonly cited as one of the
most important works of Old
English literature. The author
was an anonymous Anglo-
Saxon poet, referred to by
scholars as the
"Beowulf poet".
