MEDIA STUDIES
Q2) How did your production skills develop
throughout the project?
ALTHOUGH MEDIA STUDIES ITSELF HAS BEEN QUITE
CHALLENGING IT HAS BEEN A LEARNING EXPERIENCE AS
WELL. I NEVER KNEW WHAT SHOT IS USED FOR WHAT
PURPOSE. BEFORE THIS ACADEMIC YEAR STARTED MY
KNOWLEDGE OF MEDIA WAS JUST WHICHEVER ANGLE
SUITS OR LOOKS BETTER GO WITH IT J. BUT NO MAYN
THIS IS NOT HOW IT WORKS... MOSTLY MY INTEREST IS IN
EDITING I THOUGHT I KNEW EVERYTHING ABOUT
EDITING BUT NEVER-MIND MY BAD I KNEW MOST OF THE
THINGS BUT NOT ALL. MY PARENTS ARE FROM THE
MEDIA INDUSTRY SO FOR ME, ALL THIS IS NOT AT ALL
NEW, I HAVE BEEN WATCHING ALL THIS FROM THE DAY I
WAS BORN TILL NOW. SO I AM A LITTLE FAMILIAR WITH
ALL THE MEDIA STUFF.
As an editor, I got to learn that I have to use
different film techniques which I was never
aware of again... Things need to make sense of
why they are being used. As I said making a
mystery film itself was a challenge to me, I
searched a lot into this thing which made me
think of that searching a little deep into what you
want will always give you the best. Henry Ford
once said “Chop your own wood and it will
warm you twice.”
What I learned in the class motivated me, and
made me confident about what we are about to
make will rock and then we chose the mystery
genre for our opening clip. Choosing mystery
genre itself was a challenge but it made all of us
learn a lot of things. I also learned how we can
take help from different editing apps, I used
cap-cut for editing because I know how to use it
and you can have all types of effects, fonts,
animations, styles, adjustments, and whatnot for
free and good quality.
I am the Art director as well which made me develop
many skills for example, location scouting, when I
did the location scouting I didn’t notice the light issue
until when we started filming, and props to make it
more interesting so that it entertains our audience too.
This was all the pre-production things. The post-
production process was fun to do because I learned a
lot from it, including how to add graphics and where
to add them ( I didn’t use them in our clip but I
learned them while doing the clip). Added the titles
and the credits and also learned that whenever
shooting, shoot extra footage in different lights and
with different ideas so that in the end you don’t have
